Hi Ann

I do use Picasa but only have a mono printer so hence the memory stick and trip to the kiosks to get them copied.
And.................yes I bought more supplies today. Couldn't resist. Good job I'm back at work tomorrow. My brother in law has given me 2 photo albums today of family photo's so I'll spend Weds scanning them in for future projects.

I might have some stickers like that in my stash for card making - I will experiment tomorrow.
I think once I get the first page done I will feel more confident!

Pammy, I have been known to use black, white or red flowers on a male page. Rope or twine would be good, and buttons. On my grandsons pages I also used stickers you can get (usually meant for children) of cars, sport things etc.

Pammy51 Report 2 Jan 2011 16:53

Thanks for all those hints.
I've printed off some photos, some a bit smaller than originals to fit more in, though I don't want the pages to look too overcrowded.
I probably wont use flowers- I don't think my nephew would appreciate them- but buttons would work well. I'm going to try to incorporate some thin rope as he is very 'in' to sailing.
One page will be a Christmas one of 3 or 4 Christmas days in the past (one I've managed to doctor so that it has all the family in it) so I will look out for some sale items.

Di do you scan your photos into your pc? If you download picasa (free) and scan in you can print from there.

Hi everyone.
My OH has now asked for more pages in his album so I have ideas for 4 more pages. I was in T***o yesterday and picked up bags of foam letters and stars etc for £1 each. Also found some packs in The Factory Shop of foam embellishments. I don't know when I'll use them but they have gone in my storage box. Need to get duplicate photo's done for the 4 pages so can't start them yet. I will need a room soon to do all this craft in.
I have only used 12 x 12 and one size of the page as I too realised that I may need to move the pages around in the album.

JustJean Report 2 Jan 2011 14:41

Hi, all, just done twelve pages of the album, not all at once I hasten to add....
dont forget increase in vat soon so all the craft stuff will no doubt go up, but card and paper is worth stocking up on now....I always buy 12 x12 sizes easy to cut down.... Range will be selling a lot of stuff off now , but some times places like supermarkets and pound shops are a good source too... happy crafting everyone....

love Jean xx

I too use more than one photo, if using 8x8 you may find it better to print copies off of the photos in a smaller size. I also only normally use one side of the paper. Worth looking in places like the Range, Dunelm & Home Sense as well as they all have craft supplies and this time of year some are cheaper, eg if you have a winter or Christmas page to do.

I buy up quite a bit of Christmas reduced things this time of year and store until next year for my card making as when I start my cards the shops are not usually stocking the Christmas stuff yet.

Hello all,
Pammy I use both 8x8 and 12x12 albums like Ann and I buy them from WH Smiths and from the Hobbycraft shows at the NEC. You can get blocks of 8x8 papers as well as 12x12 papers from QVC on line just look in the craft section (check the postage though). You can also buy some small sets from pound shops if they have them in stock .
If you use original photos check that the paper you use is acid and ligin (sp) free as photos will degrade over time . I also use ribbons, buttons and paper flowers as embellishments on the pages . I only usually use one side of the paper as I sometimes like to move pages around as I add new photos, but that is a personal thing , I always put 2 or more photos on a page some people only put one on a page.
Everyone does an album in a different way just enjoy making it.

Thanks Ann
I shall look around on the internet for the scrap books. I think you are right about the smaller ones being better for storage so I shall go for one of them.
My brother has just sent me a load of great photos of my nephew so I think it is going to be a bigger project than I had first envisaged!

Pammy, we use the scrap books thata re available from somewhere like Papermania (Docrafts or Hobbycraft sites) on line or hobbycraft shops. They have plastic sleeves into which you slide the sheets and you can either use one side or both of the backing paper or card (depending on whether it has a design both sides or not.

I used the 8X8 sized scrap books for my memory books for the grandsons, otherwise for my own books I use 12X12 books. I believe that you may also be able to get A4 size. 12x12 are a bit large to give to somebody as storage is difficult. Backing papers are usually sold 12x12 but they can be cut down of course.

Linda, ooh, what a nuisance. I never store my photos on the camera, always download them onto the PC then, if you have Picasa (free to download) you can lighten them when you edit them by using the 'I'm feeling lucky' button. I hope your OH can get them via the shop.

Just ask your questions as you go along Pammy, we will help you out of course.

Happy New Year to all you scrap booking ladies.

I am just about to start my first scrapbook for my nephew's 18th birthday and would like to pick your brains.
I thought I would do it A4 size - is that OK and are there any pros or cons?
Also -do you use both sides of the page or just one?

Any hints would be greatly appreciated

Pammy

PS am going to bed soon but will check in tomorrow

Hello everyone..I hope you all had a Happy Christmas.

Ann...I was so looking forward to getting back into scrapping in the new year as I had so many photos of our 3 young grandsons stored on my camera.Unfortunately whilst messing with my camera, indoor photos appearing rather dark, I seem to have deleted them all...I am absolutely gutted to say the least. My dear OH is taking the sim card to a local photographers to check it out...keeping my fingers crossed.

Di...I am so pleased that your OH loved his album. Oooops totally addicted we did warn you lol.

Hi Jean...you have been busy! OH and I have decided to change a spare bedroom into a combined den (for him) and craft room in the new year so I am really excited!! I was given a Cuttlebug a couple of Christmas's ago from my dear OH...sadly I didn't use it for about 18 months then I discovered that I could use other makes of dies. A case of looking up YouTube to find out what plates I would have to use. I love YouTube for tutorials.

We went into Smith's today and they have the latest edition of Scrapbook Inspirations Idea Book at half price. I miss the original monthly magazine but no way would I pay nearly £10 when they changed the format. In this case I succumbed...a bargain although I haven't looked at it yet.

A Very Happy New Year to you all.

Hello Jean, seems as if you are the industrial one this week. I will get back to my scrap book soon, did 6 pages before christmas. It is often the way that the ideas come once one page is tackled. Must make some more cards too, have a few birthdays coming up.

My daughter in law gave me a craft set for Christmas it is a Davinci Tilekit. I haven't studied it but you can transfer a photo to a tile. Will have a go when in the mood.

Hi, everyone, I have started the album for my friend s daughter who is my goddaughter, I did one earlier this year for her sister, it took me a bit to get my head round it just went blank, but once I started it started to come together...

I love my cuttlebug which was one of my gifts.... youtube has loads of great tutorials on crafts....well worth a look.... so Happy Crafting New Year to all....

So pleased that he enjoyed it, makes it sll worthwhile doing it doesn't it? Enjoy doing more now. And enjoy the Kindle, daughter bought a cover for mine which was a surprise. And loaded a lot of her books onto it. We are able to share books now - she set it up, don't ask me how!!!

Hi all.
Just popped in to say hubby thoroughly enjoyed his 'album' of his 60 years. He didn't put it down until late last night after reading through it. I have now got an order from son and DIL for their 1st anniversary next year. I have already bought a huge kit from Homesense that has 2500 pieces to get me started. I'm so hooked. Only problem is Hubby bought me a Kindle too which I need to load with lots of books and goodness knows when I'm going to have time to read!

Best wishes everyone for 2011.

Lovely to see this thread re-awakened. I just know you are going to have fun in your new craftroom, what a lucky person you are.
Linda, you will have time to get back to it in january. A month for staying in and crafting I always think.
