on our charity stall, it has giving me a hobby other than genes and gardening, i sent of for 500 mixed colured beads and the elastic you thread them on all it came too was a couple of pound, i can tell you where to get the stuff if your interested, the bracelet i made sold for 4.00 i can make at least another 20 for less than that, ive never been artistic, but ive some confidence now to make some.

l love crafts but don't do much now, l'm mending someones very very old blanket by darning it and plan to start something for the grand kids after....but l have lots of plans and don't do em....grrrr

Hello Puss

The bracelet making sounds great and brings in money for your charity too. I always had a bent towards crafts and making things especially before the old RA hands took hold but as was the norm in those days - learn shorhand and typing so you have something to go back on.

I don't have many hobbies now but my daughter's friend is greatly into making her own cards. She does the most lovely birthday cards without all those over the top sentimental verses which is just not me. I think I might have a go at that.

It is lovely Moonbi and the colours just right for a man, what a lovely gift.

you ladies asked about the size of my quilt.
its 2 metres square.
it took me a month to cut and piece the top, ( the process is called strip piecing) and then it sat there over the summer waiting.

I recently had enough $ to buy the backing fabric, so it has taken the last 2 weeks to back it. 2 days ago I added the binding, which I find the easiest to do, and yesterday I washed it and line dried. as per the photo.

I dont do much handsewing, its mostly done on the industrial embroidery machine.

you mention patience, this one did indeed stretch my patience, and I had to keep reminding my self who it was for and why.
there was a day a couple of weeks ago where i had to unpick one corner 3 times. I was getting too lax with my pinning and so....xxx. a few nice little words came out the 3rd time.

any way its the best I can do. a woman who was sitting at the same table as me at craft told me about her DIL who has a business of quilting bigger tops, with a frame machine, so I think I will look into getting her to do the quilting of the next one if her prices arent too hot.

Today it will be given away to the chap I mentioned before. he will be able to sit in his armchair and read his maritime books or watch his documentaries, with it on his knee. and now that winter is on its way here, very cool nights lately, He should be happy.

Could do Von although I like the blog facility when I get them on without a problem. Quite a few people have the addy now too so to change might be a problem, but thanks for the info.

Sorry Jean, I'll have a look, may have missed them. Not so easy to put them on the blog now as Picasa changed and I can't blog direct. I have to put the pics into my pictures first, a bit time consuming so it takes longer to get around to it. :-)

Still here Ann and Von, just had a look at the blog the pics are beautiful Ann, and moonbis quilt too, what alot of work she has put into it...btw didyou get some more of my card pics.? I sent them a few days ago now I have some more waiting to be put on the lap top, I used some of the craft stuff you sent me... love Jean xx
