Hi there

Its quite a lot cooler here this morning as the wind is from the south, but
I cant get outside the last couple of days because there is so much smoke about from fires. the summer has been extremely hot.

Nobody inquiring to buy property lately, so

Nothing else to do, I UNpacked a couple of card making boxes and started........
Im happy creating again,

I made a pink card for a babe girl, niece of my dil, to post to Minnesota, and another for my bil who has been in hospital for tests.

I have subscribed to Magazine called "Cardmaking in Easy Steps" its an AUS. and I find it really good because, it comes with all the supplies to make the cards pictured in the mag. and clearly detailed instructions and photos on how to make each. sometimes I can make about 15 cards if I think smart.

Not cheap to buy, but if I had to buy all the supplies separately it would cost much more. so Im happy, when I cant get out, Ive still got all the stuff to make what I see in the book.

best wishes to all and hope you dont have to dig too much snow !!

Ann

Paton's had a book "How to knit & crochet" - my copy is over 40 years old!

If Paton's is still around, the book should be in print.

If you can't find it, I can scan the pages and email them to you :-D

moonbi, Sorry you have not had anyone to view your house, is the market slow there too? The fires have been nasty and the smoke must be very unpleasant so best to stay in and good to have something to do. don't forget to send pics of your makes.

Scozz thank you, I did find a book in the end in the Hobbycraft shop. Have had a go at a couple of the simple stitches but not really had time to concentrate. I will though. thanks for the offer, I think patons are still around but didn't see any pattern books by them.

Well I may or may not have lost the plot ;-) ;-) ;-) ;-) ;-)

I was reading yesterday about "snow dyeing" fabric and thought I would try some before all our snow melted.

You surround fabrics with snow on a tray and pour on dyes and let the snow melt slowly.
Well I collected a bucket of snow and currently have a piece of silk covered in coloured snow so watch this space and if it's successful I'll send Ann some photos.
Take care everyone and keep warm
Von

Fingers crossed Jean as I haven't tried this method before although I have done a lot of fabric dyeing.
Take care

Vons snow dyeing reminded me of this -

One for sunny weather though!

I haven't tried it but will probably have a go when space and weather permit :-D

Von .... thats sounds very interesting, especially having seen Islands wool link:)
Has it started to change yet??

Island Report 25 Jan 2013 19:24

Hi Jude :-D

Apparently the wool 'dye' is set by putting it wet into a sealed plastic bag and leaving it to steam in the hot sun (lol)
It wouldn't be very attractive if the colours merged when washed would it?

On the other hand........if it doesn't run or fade in the wash, what does it do to your innards when it's a drink? :-0 :-0

Very interesting....:)

And yes thats a thought...yuck.....lol :-0

AnninGlos Report 25 Jan 2013 19:33

I think the heat sets the colours because she says to wash the wool after but if any colours start to run to put it back out into the sun.
