Wonder if I am right and it is that everyone is feeding them because it was on TV last night. Lucky birds!!

Morning Ann, same here feeders are usually swarming but not today :-|

quarter past nine this time last week, loads of birds. this week hardly any. Bird watch is advertised so everyone feeds them so they aren't hungry! :-D

Don't forget the bird watch folk. :-)

I just image the amount of poop they have left behind Ann :-S :-S.....Plus all the dog has left in the snow.When the snow eventually melts I will have to have a massive bin bag to do a collection :-( :-(..I'm not really looking forward to that lol

I had 14 Wood Pigeons today !.It was like a massive dinner party.I had sprinkled Bird Seed all along the length of our very long Yew hedge.The poor smaller birds didn't get a look in :-S.I won't be doing that tomorrow.I'll stick to the usual places and then hopefully they will all be happy

Pringles containers are a good idea, 7! you must eat a lot of pringles. Think we have enough feeders now though all hanging round our apple tree.

Thrush was back this morning, don't know if it has been around all day though as we went out to town, had an appointment with the chiropodist. When we came home I put more bread out as they'd finished the food I left this morning, and there were still 6 blackbirds in the garden. they soon finished that lot too.

Sandie, starlings make a mess in our garden, they sit up on the TV aerial and drop their 'messages' onto whatever is on the patio.

Nice idea with the feeder with the Pringles box......prob is I don't like Pringles ;-)

As we don't have tree's in our garden now , I put baking trays on the snow covered area away from the house,with fat balls and seeds for the birds.
I do hang some feeders on the clothes line too !

There are loads back today , no sign of the Seagulls tho.
I know they too have to eat Ann, but when there's no snow about they don't half make a mess on the cars ! Yuck !!

You know the ``pringles containers`` that had crisps in, they are great for putting a mixture of kibbled nuts , mixed fruit , sunflower hearts and lard in. I have made some this morning, put the nuts and fruit into a bowl , melt a pack of lard then pour it on the the feed, mix well then spoon it all into the pringles tube, you will need to ferm it down with the end of a rolling-pin, wait for it to set then with a stanley knife cut a 1 inch square hole in the tube then tie some string round the top and put out.
I have made 7 all together and put in freezer.

i put out 2 big frankfurter sausages today.the first visitor was a magpie, and maggie broke them up and hid them in the garden....never seen that before. has anyone else?

We do have a few seagulls but they don't seem to keep the other birds away. They have to eat as well of course.

We usually have too many Sky rats (Seagulls ) that put off the birds but since the snow, the birds have come back with abundance.
Magpies seem to have taken roost too !
Sunday we had 2 long tailed tits , our usual robins and today loads of blackbirds back and thrushes.
Good riddance to the Sky rats !!!

Even though most of the snow has gone, we still have 6 blackbirds routing about in the garden. fed them once today and now theya re looking for more. The thrush has been back too.

And a weak sun has appeared!! :-D

Just as the starlings and blackbirds finished the food that was out tw fieldfares appeared. Very aggressive the larger one is going for the blackbirds.

Apple is in the fruit mixture, the blackbirds like them too. Not much left out there already

We have a water feature with running water too so they have plenty of water. every time I put feed out it disappears in half an hour. Redwings and fieldfare like apple by the way if you have any spare.

Just been out and fed them a nice mixture of Fruit,nuts,mealworms and seed YUMMY !!! I think they eat better than us. Not forgetting drinking water of course. I have no problem with that as I have a large pond in the garden with a pump running all year round so it never completely ices over.

As well as all the usuals,, there are a dozen or so Red Wings in the Hawthorn tree at the moment. The snow is too deep, and still falling, to put anything on the ground for them.

I have cleared the snow off the bird bath and chipped the ice out and put mince pies on the bird table and topped up the nuts and seed and fat balls, the little birds have got through about seven fat balls in the last few days.

They are eating as we'll as us at the moment, better really, they have got the mince pies !!! M
