Island
No I haven't been to the Kite centre. Certainly it's lovely to see them soaring about in the sky but I just didn't want to witness the kill- wooss that I am.

It will be interesting to see if it comes back.

I understand that in Bucks they are becoming a bit of a problem but that's only hearsay so I don't know any details.
Ann we usually see them on the motorway as well.

Gosh Von that was a lovely surprise. We often see them when travelling down to Hampshire, usually just this side of Winchester as far as Newbury.

Wow! How exciting Von! We were pleased to see a red kite as close to London as Watford while travelling up the M1 a couple of weeks ago.
We seem to being seeing one more often than not these last few months while travelling up to the Midlands. Bring 'em on!
Have you been to the red kite feeding centre in mid Wales? Amazing!

Von Report 12 Feb 2013 11:38

Bearing in mind that I live in suburban London, I had quite a shock this morning to see a Red Kite homing in on the crows right outside the bedroom window. :-0 :-0 :-0 :-0

There are lots of Kites in Bucks and on the M4 corridor but they seem to be moving nearer and nearer to civilisation.
I have seen one in the distance but never this close to the house.
Take care

Lucky you Jane, sounds very entertaining. As long s the squirrels are not doing any damage to the lawn of course. Sounds as though they were having fun though.

What a busy time in the garden .It's like 'Animal Farm' lol .I pulled back my bedroom curtains and spent 20 minutes just watching all the comings and goings in the back garden.I just wish I had had my Iphone to video. There was one Squirrel hanging upside down on the Peanut Ball, another Squirrel busy running around the lawn digging little holes,2 Moorhens pottering about on the Patio,Wood Pidgeons playing Rudies and Chase Me ;-) and lots of Robins doing the territorial bit.Plus a hoard of Tits,Blackbirds and Sparrows at the Coconut. Not forgetting the Spotted Woodpecker on the lawn clearing the snow with it's beak to get to the grass. It was a great sight :-D :-D

Jude, sorry a bit of a clumsy sentence. But, when you fill in the form, all the birds you didn't see have a 0 against them, therefore they are recorded as you not having seen them. That is as important to the RSPB as seeing them. :-)

Morning:)

The chaffinches are out in force this morning with a few bluetits, nothing much else at moment:)

Shaun...you are so lucky, all those amazing birds:))

Ann....what do you mean by ..."They say it is important to record what isn't seen as well as what is Shaun."...??
Do you mean the Owls because they were heard but not seen??

jude :-)

I missed it again :-S :-S.Just been too busy this weekend to be able to sit and count. At this minute there are lots of Blackbirds.(One having a bath in the now thawed birdbath),and 4 Moorhens pottering around at the bottom of the garden.Other small birds feeding on the Peanut Ball.

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 27 Jan 2013 15:24

wish we had nuthatches Jude, daughter has them. Yes we had long tailed tita last weekend, very frustrating. Just hope somebody in the area has charted them or they won't know they are around here. Actually the bird watch puzzles me a bit. If Mrs A writes down 3 blackbirds at 0915 and then Mrs B next door writes down 3 blackbirds five minutes later how do they know they are not the same birds Lol!!!!

AnninGlos Report 27 Jan 2013 14:37

Tried again today and at the same time of day the list was almost exactly the same except we had two crows more, one less magpie, no blackcap at that time, only one bluetit instead of two and two great tits instead of none. But quite consistent which is interesting. Now, had it been last weekend!!!

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 26 Jan 2013 10:27

Well had a few.
1thrush
1 black cap
2 greenfinch
2 blue tit
3 blackbirds
1 seagull
3 collard doves
3 starlings
5 sparrows
2 magpies
1 chaffinch

So where are the usual robin, great tit and goldfinches hiding?

Might have another go tomorrow to compare.
