Jude - my OH would be just as curious as you if he found an owl pellet.

I heard my little greenfinch start up earlier this morning, but he stopped suddenly when it started to rain. It was so beautifully sunny this morning I had hopes of a day in the garden, but no. It's teeming down now and looks like it's not about to stop very soon.

Do we know where they all disappeared to?It's quite weird.Maybe they packed their little bags and had a holiday lol

I haven't been on here for a while but will answer Tecs question first. My little bird settled in well before us two, he just seemed to accept if his mum and dad were here it was home. He is learning all the best landing places and has found his safe spots.

I am also wondering where all the birds have gone, all but the crows in the end went, then a couple of days ago the collared doves arrived back, loads of them. Next day the wood pigeons came back and the magpies, hubby came in last night and said there were a lot of sparrows in the car park. I have heard the song thrush and blue tits again but not seen them yet, they are in the trees in the visitors car park facing our windows, the trees are so dense though I can't see anything in them.
I'm glad they are back, it's eerie without birdsong.

After yesterdays rain ,the birds suddenly appeared and were gobbling up the worms lol........then PUFF they all seem to have disappeared again. Our Robins and Woodpidgeons seem to be the ones that are always about.
I don't think I know what a Dunnock looks like ,so had better find out just incase we have them.

Dizzielizzie....l would just love to see the ducks waddling up your garden path.

Ann...for some reason we don't have much going on this morning apart from the doves and the odd sparrow or it might have been a dunnock, don't think the magpies are here yet.

Its the Monmouth Show today, bet the town will be packed and chaos on the roads. Vic said the contestants were all arriving early when out with Madoc. We'll not be going as we have been loads of times and its so expensive to get in, l heard a neighbour saying it was £15 each, but don't know for sure!!!!

DizzieLizzie Report 27 Aug 2009 09:18

We had a tree surgeon in on Monday and one of the things he did was to take some weight out of our 2 apple trees before they break or split, so consequently a lot of windfalls. The ducks like those and the past few mornings we've had about half a dozen waddling up the garden for a feast - first taking into account which of our cats is out and about. If it's Buster they take no notice and carry on, if it's one of the other two they consider popping back later...

Of course whilst the butterflies are getting fewer, with the apple trees the wasps are more numerous.

My noisy greenfinch was in the bushes outside my son's bedroom window again this morning.

We have 6 magpies now and still about 6 or 7 c/doves, not seen w/pigeons apart from one on the fence the other day. Robin is still about and 15 plus sparrows.....oh and a few bluetits, grttits and coaltits. No woodpeckers for ages:o(( The other critter that we have'nt seen for a while are the squirrels:o(
The butterflies are slowly disapearing too, now the budlia blossom is dieing off.
Sooo if anyone wants to send me photo's l can definately get them on the blog....not tried to sort picasa out yet, not had time.

Yeahh, the birds are back ! Where on earth have they been? I have had goldfinches and sparrows by the dozen, the collared doves have been cooing on the fence too. Very strange. The photo of my sleepy Magpie is on the photoblog thanks to Jude. Just wondered having another look if he is ill or something. Usually Magpies are so timid, and don't usually settle for long, but he just looks asleep..lol

Hi all
Yesterday evening was quite busy around our garden. At dusk a skein of canada geese flew over in two v formations. Looked like they were on their way to land at Lyneham. They seem to have taken to flying over at around the same time for the past few evenings. After that whilst watering the pots we watched lots of bats flying over the river between the trees on either side. We figured there must be some about but it's the first time we've seen them. The owls were around again too. We could only hear them again, but they were somewhere very nearby. Today I've had a greenfinch in the bushes outside my kitchen window being quite noisy too.

We haven't even see the wood pigeons or the doves.

Jude, Issy deleted one of her posts by mistake. I think I saw yesterday that she has changed her board name to Barbra but not seen her since.

Tecwyn Report 24 Aug 2009 14:01

Hi Folks,
Like everyone, I too am wondering where the birds have gone. I've had just a few sparrows and chaffinches. The robin appeared yesterday briefly, and I did have a pair of greenfinches early today. The doves who seem to live in my garden are always around, and of course the perishing jackdaws - mobs of them - hooligans every one.

Don't worry about getting Ianto's name wrong Jude - my fault for giving him a Welsh name. Madoc is a good Welsh name too. I could have named him Rover, Bonzo, Wayne or Elvis I suppose lol. There is a black labrador bitch in the village called Felicity.

Well I'm off to cut my neighbours hedge, because she thinks it's mine - it's not, mines on the other side........oh well.

Regards
Tec.

Hi all:o))
Back from Birmingham yesterday.

Oops oo eck l am sorry Yanto, hope he'll forgive me?? ...lol
Great news that he did'nt have to have surgery after all. Sorry to hear though that his eye's are still not too good bless him. Perhaps he has abit of selective hearing...lol...Madoc hears his dish being picked up if he's out the back. He's still scratching like mad, has new cream and had a bath today, vets again tomorrow or Tues.

Maggie....that sounds really cute, Magpies round here are quite nervous, can't imagine one nodding off...lol, yes please send a photo:o))

Whats happened to you Izzy, your posts have been deleted again!!

Jane....we have had a green woodpecker but not for a while, they are a lovely colour, our Lesser spotted (l think they are anyway) have'nt been around for some weeks now :o(

Quite alot of food left today Ann, but that could be due to people in and out of their gardens and the dogs too!

Hi Ann...know what you mean by lack of birds...the last 2 days the bread has gone stale, and we have a sparrow hawk too ! Only my little robin and a couple of blackbirds visit now. I did catch a magpie having a snooze on my wall which I took a photo of, might send it to Jude.

Come on !!!!! Who has pinched all our birds? We have full bird feeders and only one single young robin in the garden, where have they all gone. I know we have a sparrow hawk in the area and the last time we had one our birds disappeared for a couple of months. Very eerie without them, a couple of weeks ago we had a large flock of sparrows.
