You used to be able to turn the thread round didn't you? Then you could start at the end and read backwards.

Thank you all, I have taken large file cards for each recipe and written '1 cup plus 1/2 cup' , where necessary, works well to a point, but if she doesn't have quite enough she'll go ahead anyway LOL. More later, I have a rental car arriving for a couple of days, out into the cold. Mary

Slept on it.thought about it. Two ideas I have had. If it is in pounds, break it into its component parts, weigh in ounces or convert to foreign where you can have a specific number of whatever the foreign equivalent is,grams and hecxtares or whatever.Damn silly measurments anyway!
The other idea I had was to make it into two measures seperated by another ingredient. Like one ounce of salt, six ounces sugar, quarter ounce of salt and write the recipe so they are added seperately.
You know how Megan's mind computes better than mine, which doesn't always. So there is my two bob's worth.Proper money that!

Mary if you wrote the recipe out and put the numbers in words (one and a quarter or one whole plus a quarter) would that help Meg?
Joyce good luck when you see the doc, I hope it is nothing too drastic.

I am a little dyscalculic Mary. My uncle was dyslexic so he was punished severely for it at school.Nothing like a little humiliation to bring out the best in a child.
I can live round the number problem if I am not under a lot of stress, when they start to dance.
Have been trying to think how I deal with number concepts to see if I can think of a way for Megan to see them better Nothing yet but will keep trying..

Mary Mary quite contrary (not x) how does your cooking grow! along with so many other activities which are sprung upon you and others you choose to get involved in, talk about multi tasking lass well you put me to shame... Saying that I do watch out for my neighbours and bring in shopping for them via home delivery, also order repeat medication prescriptions for them online, do bits and pieces of typing and copying if needed, and so on....a month ago and for my sins I was asked if I would take on the post of secretary for our local social club, they voted me in and now my sleepless nights are taken up preparing agenda's followed by minutes, Christmas letters to local retailers requesting donations for raffle prizes, etc,......but........Toby is quite bemused and slightly put out when his mistress disappears from the house for meetings and leaves him 'home alone', I don't think he understands or is amused yet I still get the full treatment of being smothered in kisses when I return home...if only men could be so understanding lol...... A couple of hiccups have hit home this past week, after having blood tests and an chest x-ray a couple of weeks ago I went to the doc's for results! turns out I have a high C-reative protein in my blood which means there is inflamation showing up in my body somewhere! (nothing to do with protein in one's waterworks), am going for another blood test this Friday!, then the x-ray results have shown up something!!!!! on my right lung and I see my doc next Tuesday, she will probably want either another x-ray or possible scan!...and there was me so desperate to see the end of 2010 and start the new year afresh and renewed, one can only dream I suppose. Thankfully we have had a respite from the snow and ice and been able to venture back to Toby's favourite pasttime of searching the undergrowth for whatever! unfortunately the wintry conditions return on Thursday so for the next couple of day we will make hay whilst the sun shines...wrapping of christmas presents can just wait lol..... Tis time I had a break, another cuppa and turn my thoughts to more mundane things like h....work, yuk! so for now will love and leave you.. To all my friends out there, have a great day and post now and then because I miss you all.....that means you my Deanna, my lovely lol...and for my Caz, love you also and sending gentle hugs xxx
Take care

I absolutely LOVE lobster, but without my gall-bladder now it doesn't like me so much !!!!! I've had a bright idea, actually it seems I had a bright idea a month ago, when I suggested to the baker (Meg's boss) that I could re-type all her recipes and put them in a loose-leaf book for her, she was dealing with dozens of pieces of paper LOL. Today she was upset that she can't even get into the shop to get her recipes as they have changed the locks, her own personal equipment, books and recipes are all locked into the shop. I asked her what recipe she needed and she said her shortbread recipe. I shocked her by saying well, I have it here, waiting to bring it to you this week with all the others. She was thrilled, didn't remember that I've been typing out her recipes, nor did she realise I saved them all on my computer. She thought I was just making labels for the packges for her. So now if she finds a new place to do the gluten-free baking, she will have all her recipes intact. My other bright idea today was that perhaps I could teach megan to make the GF rolls that the kids like. It would give her a purpose - if I can manage to instruct her clearly enough. She has dyscalculia, like a dyslexia but for numbers, to her '1 1/4 cups' means one 1/4 cup, not one plus 1/4 cup. Makes for interesting outcomes!!.
OK, apparently I'm on a new mission, but first I am going to do some Christmas baking. Anyone have time to come andhelp??? off to bed now, good night all, Mary

Mary I am sorry to see about Megan's job, what an awful time of year for that to happen.
Your Chinese sounded good. I love crab legs and lobster. Went t an all you can eat Chinese in Florida where they had unlimited snowcrab legs. Lovely. We were little piggies on those.

My weekend was quiet and just fine thank you. The dogs and ourselves went out for supper to a Chinese buffet last night, my heart skipped a beat when I saw they had lobster and crab legs on the menu, my fav of all time, and I had visions of eating the lot. Sadly after one half of a small lobster and 2 crab legs I couldn't eat any more of the rich seafood.. It's so long since I had anything so rich, that I had had enough quickly. Mary saw me eating some seafood and announced she thinks she will become a vegetarian, Sad she doesn't like things I like. I am still without a vehicle, so it really was quiet here. I had to stay put till C came home. We have a lovely gentle snowfall at present, it's too cold for me, but looks pretty -we were threatened with a blizzard, but it hasn't yet materialised. Two of my Christmas Amaryllis have come back to life, the other 2 are still considering whether to remain dormant, just like me. I am amazed at myself, Christmas pressies wrapped already, but no tree up, not sure it will combine well with the cat and puppy!! Oh well the great day just collapsed. I got a call to say that Megan's job in the gluten-free bakery is gone. Apparently the mortgage has not been paid, they've gone bankrupt, and the specialty baker for whom she works directly is out of a job now too, the week before Christmas. mercifully Megan is on disability so doesn't rely on the bakery for income, but I rely on the baker for the GF bread for Sarah and Gareth. Now I will have to start baking it myself I suppose. I love baking, just haven't done a lot recently, but we'll prepare now for Christmas, need some goodies made ahead. Catch you all later, my day just became busy, Meg is devastated.

Oh Deanna I hope you will soon recover from your son's birth!! A muffin sounds good to me!! My fav is 'coffee cake' muffin. Lots of cinnamon and sugar swirled through the wee muffin. WellI am doubly glad to be here this morning. Last evening I was drivingEm to her dance class, we were on the highway (motorway) when my front end was attacked by the business end of a travelling Christmas tree! I couldn't avoid it without hitting the car beside me, so it took out the whole area where the light sits on the front passenger side. Emlyn was frightened by the experience, we pulled off the road to check the damage, and met with the man who had just cut the tree and was taking it home, before it flew off his vehicle. Emlyn informed him that "My mother is NOT going to be happy about this". On the way to the mechanic Emlyn asked how old I waswhen I had my first accident, I replied "about 20",her response was "Well, I am only half of that age, and I've already been in an accident, this will be something to tell my children!!" She has a way of lightening a situation LOL. We eventually took the van to my mechanic, and have no idea when I'll get it back. So now I am grateful neither of us were hurt, that I have at least started my Christmas shopping,so I can have a few days peace perhaps. I will have to get a rental car as I have to go to Toronto on sunday. Oh to have a day when nothing went wrong. I was at the bank earlier, getting a money order and the machine froze, I was 1/2 hour getting my money order. I bought a present for my daughter, actually 2 items and when I got home realised I had paid too much, back to the shop, the salesperson had charged me twice for one item, and not charged for the second. Whatever can go wrong, will. Now I have to get on the phone and deal with the accident. Have a uiet day everyone, I'll try to do the same, and for once I think I've hit a significant number on the thread - am I # 8500? Hugs all round, thanks for letting me ramble on. mary

Oh dear we have been very lax about posting on here. I would like to think it is because we are all leading such exciting lives that we don't need the comfort of this thread any more, nbut I am sure I would be wrong. I think it is more likely out of sight out of mind, once the thread sinks we forget to go and look for it. Rose and Joyce (JP) I hope you have got over your fedupness. (nice word that). We have been reasonably lucky with the weather here Joyce. Icy paths and heavy frosts but practically no snow at all. I hope your daughter's knee is getting better. Not nice payment for lending out her car.
I do hope everyone else on here, the regulars in particular, are OK.

Thank you so much my Rambling Rose xx .... in a nutshell you have described exactly how MY inner mind is thinking, and has been for many a day.....I did think I was the only person on the planet who felt this way but now I know I am not going bonkers it brings some small relief, lol.. Actually , and apart from numerous tests the nurses and doctor dream up for me, I am still holding my own, I think!..Over a period of six days I have had to attend the doctors' surgery FIVE times, when I mentioned to the doc that so far it had cost me £50 in taxis to get there her reply was " Take a bus or walk here", I wish!...something must have clicked with her because this morning I am on standby to receive a ' telephone consultation' from her regarding my latest blood and x-ray tests... who knows the outcome, just maybe I have turned into the latest version of the ICEWOMAN and my innards are freezing up, with the present weather climate anything is possible lol.....
A bit like you Mary I also am posting and attempting to tempt our thread to revive a little and return, if possible, to how it used to be....full of chatty postings from those we love so well ....poor Gareth in the wars again, bless him, I hope his 'bump' is receding and no harm has been done!..
Out of the goodness of her heart my daughter lent her 4x4 car to my granddaughter, the one who lives in Coventry, to enable her not only attend three funeral parlours she is responsible for, along with embalming duties, but to ensure she reached her stables where she has six beautiful horses who need love and attention.....this meant my daughter was having to tread the paths of icy roads to get to her place of work.....needless to say she took a tumble, landed on her good knee and is now hobbling around, in pain....she has been waiting over a year now for an operation on her left knee..and so life goes on, yes....
Come on folks, please let us know how you are all keeping and if you need any 'food parcels' sent out to you...I am sure Santa Claus would not mind bringing his reindeers into action a little earlier to help out xx
Right, tis decision time, it is now 4.42am and I have been on the comp since 2am....shall I go back to bed or continue pottering around and maybe wake up my neighbours! I don't think I would be very popular though, would I ...
Once again, take care folks and if possible have a good day.....
Love
Joyce P
p s....Love you Caz xxxxxx

I'm creeping on here because I am fed up.. fed up of not sleeping properly because I go trawling over the last couple of years...even when I'm dreaming , fed up of being the one person who 'does everything', fed up of worrying , fed up of the timing of everything being just 'out' somehow , fed up of 'waiting' until I can do what I want to do..if ever.. ( even if I knew what that is exactly), fed up with ''idiots' who ask silly questions and then when you try and clarify it don't answer grrrr
and most of all I am fed up with me moaning!
Just ignore me...letting off steam...I'm having a Garbo moment!

So pleased to see you on here Joyce, just imagining Toby running circles round you in the snow wondering why you don't want to 'play'.
Mary, good also to see some chatty posts from you, sorry to have been AWOL we were in Torquay for the weekend where it was not too cold at all, certainly warmer than Gloucester.
Carole has problems with her PC she is fighting to get it fixed I think.
