Hello Ben, good to see you. Good for you finding all those twigs for your tree. Happy hunting.

the only way that you would know Sharron is to seek medical advice. You have a lot to contend with so must get very tired which could be half your problem.

Hi

Not been on here for a while but good to be back. I have been doing very little research on my ancestors but endless research on their siblings and first cousins now.

They are not proper ancestors as they are not of direct ascent but they are relatives and part of my ancestral family tree. I am finding many first cousins of direct rellies who emigrated and a few siblings who also emigrated as well.

I don't thhink I really know what depression is.

In the years when I was being treated for it I was very, ery unhappy and frustrated and probably always had been.I was being psychologically abused.

Now that the abuser is long gone and pretty well purged from my psyche I have times when I wonder if I am clinically depressed but it is not the emotions I felt then.

Thanks Rose, I do try and keep up with it but haven't for a while and I notice that I missed David's post. If you are looking in David, how is your brother, as ann said it sounds as if something was affecting him, did you find out any more? It does look as though he need some sort of help with his mental wellbeing.

I notice this thread hasn't been around for a while,which I hope is a good sign :-)

I was just reminded of it listening to a tv programme where the person mentioned how hard depression is to talk about in private let alone publicly.

I thought nudging this might help someone who is not talking about it, but is feeling they are the only one...and perhaps berating themselves with those dreadful words..." just pull yourself together".

Good wishes to anyone feeling 'the black dog' is lurking.

sounds to me David as if there is something else going on with him apart from what you have cited - sounds a bit like dementia to me, or perhaps the medication he's on - what do the medics say? or don't know about this strange behaviour - if they don't I think you should inform them ASAP

Hello every one
I haven't been on this thread in a long time..........apologies

I have a younger brother,3 years my junior.
In reccent years he has been ill.He needed a replacement hip and while in hospital he got an infectection.Meant his stay was a lot longer than he had anticipated.I visited him often but he some times didnt want company.
After being discharged from hospital to his own home he was diagnosed as having bowel cancer.
He had two operations to cure this followed by several sessions of chemotherapy which weakened him.
He subsequently had another operation to remove the colostomy bag so he could use his bowel as nature intended.
He has since had problems with his kidneys and a condition known as gout.
Also he takes medication for high BP.
So as you see he hasn't been physically well.

But in the last two or more years he has come out with some very strange remarks...addressed to me.

Example How's your dementia?
Example Who do you trust?
Example I talk,you listen.
Example You must have a vaccumn in your head
Example I'm not your enemy

Really? He is my brother, always will be.But is such conversational normal?
It's reached a stage where I now avoid him as inevitably there is a falling out.
After a while I phone him.
Is this me displaying my weakness?
It's been a long time since we were children.I am 68 this year.
