David Report 30 Mar 2009 21:27

He was in Wansbeck hospital for a month when he expected to be out in a few days. His replacement hip became infected and he was affectedted elsewhere. They had to do the operation again and clean his system. I was visiting him most days and some days communication was absent, he was ill, very ill. Then he was sischarged home and I have seen him almost every day since. He had a scan early in the year and was diagnosed as having bowel cancer. He was oprerated on. 3 days later it all went wrong and they had to operate again. He now has a colostomy bag and its taking some getting used to.He is looking forward to chemotherapy. The whole succession of events has taken a lot out of him and I confess it has been at times stressful and an emotional drain.

Sharron, depending on the strength of the person and their living circumstances, I don't think they keep them in hospital too long - they certainly try to get folk out of bed as soon as possible.
Hope you uncle makes a great recovery, bless him.
A bit more worry for you I suppose.

Carole, glad you enjoyed your trip out, maybe we will get to natter this week?

Kathy, have pm'd you.

to all my pals, love and hugs and here's to a happier brighter week ahead.

I'm sure you all know that I don't do medical but my 88 year old uncle has broken his hip. He was repaired today and I just wondered how long he was likely to be in hospital.

Can anybody tell me,please, what happens next?

Hi been a lovely afternoon in the grave yards! Didn't find many with the name on that I'm looking at at the moment, which suprised me, as they were wealthy enough to pay for them.
Took the dog with us and he loved being out. Stopped at a couple of pubs for drinks and loo's. We all enjoyed our afternoon out xx

Kathy I do that too! It's so frustrating isn't it. I think it's habit. Did submit use to be at the top?

Hi all, what a day, we have been up at the flat most of it and I'm all in now, ready for bed.
Thank you for the photo Carole, it was lovely to see you all, hope your dad enjoyed it.
Vicky we are waiting to see tomorrow when hubby gets to work if he can have that week off, if so then we will ring removal men and move early in the week, starting the 6th. Keep fingers crossed that he can have it. When I am there I never want to come home again, just wish we can get moved in, it is so peaceful and cosy. Saying that, the woman or man downstairs had their telly on very loud today so I hope it isn't a common practice with them, one thing I hate is noise.
We have just finished our tea, a bit late, so I am going to watch Lewis now, most likely fall asleep though.

Love and hugs to all

Caz xx

Hello all.
Went to mum and dads yesterday it was his 80th birthday. Such a shame he couldn't do anything much to celebrate it with his family and friends. When I arrived with my oh and daughter two of my cousins were there, and cousins wife so that was nice. Mum had had the kettle on (shock) . A neighbour had made him a cake but that remained in the kitchen uncut!! Dad was very quiet, tried to ask cousin what he did now (we think) so had a bit of a panic trying to work out what he was saying as usual just as visitors were up and ready to go. It's as if he tried to stop them going!!

Oh and I are going out grave hunting this afternoon. Just letting dinner go down. Found landed gentry way back c1774, so must be headstones in local churches to where they lived. Will be armed with camera and note paper!!!

Caz how are your plans to move going? Any set date?

Mary, Claire, Treehunter, Mrs Blue Eyes, Eileen, Joyce, Deanna, Colin, Ben, Vicky, Lily (you had me there) Liz thinking of you all, and others who don't post so much now I still think of you and hope you are doing well.

Carole - Happy birthday to your Dad, you are so lucky to have him . . . please give him a hug from me.
I'm working an extra weekend today & tomorrow, they are so short staffed. Should be plenty tired by tomorrow evening LOL.
Was going to work outside this morning but decided it sounded too much like hard work, and with a long evening coming, I just repotted my 9 African violets which look much happier now.Swept and washed floor, now I am going to sit for an hour before I leave and get these aching limbs up.
I've been collecting non-perishable food items, and toiletry items for a friend to ship to Sierra Leone, her birthplace, the help people in 3 villages where she has siblings. Went on freecycle and sked for items and amazing result -6 large boxes - food, summer clothing, soap, other hygeine items, including much needed mosquito repellant - and a big bag of small teddy bears. She cried when she saw the stuff, people are so generous. Can you imagine being unable to afford toothpaste? She says the equivalent cost there is about $10 Cdn so only the people with good jobs in the city can afford it, not in the villages. We've collected 66 tubes of toothpaste..
People there are still cooking over open fires daily, in 2009. We are so blessed here, regardless of my ever-present list of complaints. As an aside, I haven't forgotten the people who are having probs locally, having bought milk and other groceries for a family near us who are struggling, driving a disabled person to dr's appt, having listed dozens of items on Freecycle, or given to the benefit shop. The last movie I saw was a rerun of Pay it Forward. That concept is rapidly becoming my driving force.
Off to work - time to rest before leaving.
hugs to those who need them, just wanted to check in.
Mary

By Heck Thistledown, you had me confused there for a moment until I realised who you were. Some people are so cheeky, I would never dream of reading others mail or posts.
Deanna that is a good idea, I thing I will tape the drawers in and have the whole thing taken up as it is. It is only light and fits under the dining room table without it's wheels. They will go back on at the flat where there's more room. Treehunter, I really do feel for you, it's awful waiting when you know there is a good chance of moving, I hope it comes quickly for you.
Thanks for email Carole, I can't think whether I answered it or not, your dads present sounds perfect, my hubby bought me one for Christmas. Hope he has a good birthday tomorrow and your mum doesn't get too stressed with the house.

Well I went to bed and after two hours got up again, pain was too much I couldn't get comfy, and I've still not rung Macmillans, forgot again.

Take care all.

Caz... are you taking that filing cabinet with you?
If you are.... just take the drawers out and put them in the car.
When you get to the new house... put them back in the cabinet!!
Do the same with all drawers such as .. clothes and any other chests you have.
Make the move as easy as you possibly can for yourself.

Good morning Carole.... have a nice day and I am sure your dad will love your birthday gift for him. Bless him.

Just had a new water payment book.... if we are in credit, why on earth would they put our payments UP by £4 a month??
They are never that quick to pay us when we OVER PAY!!
Moan for for the day .... over.... perhaps.... ha ha ha
enjoy your day everyone,
