Hi

I have just found another great family tree finding and another ancestor who wed in London.

My great, great grandmother was Martha Caroline Quilter born in 1839 in Leigh On Sea, Essex. Daughter of Nathan and Elizabeth Quilter.

She married Henry Stock in Leigh On Sea in 1866. She was a widow. Her first husband was George Samuel Ferguson born 1835 in Leigh. Caroline is on the 1861 census in Leigh with her parents Natha and Elizabeth, a widow. George died in late 1860.

Just out of curiosity I searched for her first marriage today and a Caroline Martha Quilter married in the Sep Quarter of 1858 in St George In The East district in London. On the same marriage page was a George Samuel Ferguson. I have now promptly sent off for the cert. I wonder why they wed in London?

George Ferguson was born in 1833 son of John and Mary Ferguson nee Moss in Essex. He was baptised George Samuel Ferguson.

Morning, I'm here, the house is quiet, but I'm not sure where Meg,Colleen and Gareth are . . . Sarah still asleep she had yet another seizure last evening, 4th in the last 6 weeks, the Dr is back from hol this week so she will be seen asap. MiniMary is asleep as she was still sewing at midnight when i got home from work.

YCaz is not doing well, Dutch has a thread, the test results were not good and she is very tired and down, sends you gentle hugs dear friend.

carole I'm glad you have more time off, to get the meds and moods organised, you've got time to fly over here nowLOL.

Ben your description of the wedding had me chuckling. My first wedding was a disaster in spots too. The photographer arrived at our house drunk. My Dad was a Baptist minister and my wedding was dry so you can imagine how that went over!!. Prior to that I went to don my dress, only to find that the sleeves were still pinned to the hanger, the dress had never been completed, only one of the sleeves had little buttons down the side so we had to sew in sleeves and move half the buttons to the other sleeve so they matched. During the ceremony, my brother, one of the ushers, passed out cold as the church was so hot. My s-i-l is deaf and started to laugh, not knowing everyone could hear her, I asked her afterwards why she laughed, and she said she wasn't sure if she was at a wedding, or a funeral, the soloist was singing the Lords Prayer and they were carrying out the corpse. At the reception we had (paid for) a 3-tier wedding cake, with the top tier to be saved for our first anniversary. Turned out they had sent a dummy cake - the whole thing was iced wood!! Nobody had any cake. 16 years later, to the day, we were split. perhaps the wedding was a sign of things to come.

We have bogo here - buy one, get one - but I am well familiar with bogg-off too.

Liz, you should see my dining room, which I had reclaimed after sorting all the boxes of papers. There is fabric piled on every flat surface, including the piano, a cutting board covers the table , the sewing machine is at one end, every chair has bags in various stages of development, but - the floor is clear - why you may ask, seems miss Mary was taught by the teacher to have a box beside her at the machine and every thread is dropped in there as she cuts them off. I would have it all on the floor and sweep later.

My preemie baby boy is 35 today, what I can't figure out is how I was 30 then and suddenly that's just a memory, where have the years gone.?
Claire I hope you had a lovely day yesterday.
Sending hugs to those who need one, sorry I haven't mentioned all of you.
Must wake Sarah or she'll never go to bed tonight.

I like my bogof better, my FIL told me to bogof many times and it was not to buy one get one free I assure you.

Dimboola is an Australian movie set in the town of Dimboola, Victoria. It is a very funny comedy/farce movie about a couple getting married. The groom is blackmailed by his best man over the bucks night, the bride and groom could be first cousins, due to naughtiness with the parents. I think it was made in the 1970's, and was also a stage play at one time.

Ben's wedding sounds like it would also make a great movie. I would not like the groom at Ben's wedding for a son in law thank you. Comedy or farce at its best I would say.

I will look back with laughter really at how awful the wedding was. Those two small ruby earrings they bought for the lady who made the wedding cake were £20 max. The groom said that they had been all over looking for them. What they mean is "Looking for the cheapest ones possible".

Colin Linda has explained bogof!! How are you Colin? But now your turn to explain. What is dimboola?

Ben what a wedding. At least they are married now.

Gai I saw the Dr yesterday, and he doubled my tablets. Sick note till 27th but not working till the week after that. Also have to go for a blood test next week to see if I am anemic again.

Colin "bogg off" is telling you to get away, us Aussies are usually not so polite and use the F word then off, or the P word and Off.

I also love Ben's wedding narration, what a memory for the guests, and probably talked about for a long time after as well. Dimboola, you bet cha. The cake really does take the cake though, how rude.

Been trying to get some much needed cleaning done over the last few days, so very tired just now.

Hope everyone is feeling better or on the road to recovery.

Love and hugs

Gail

Hello all,
Ben, nice to see you. Your wedding story rivals that of the Australian classic wedding story, "Dimboola".
Really do hope you are feeling better Carole, and Deanna, just to repeat: you are not useless. And so techy. I can just about program my video recorder. MP3 is beyond me, let alone skype.
Nice to hear you Clairjo; I wondered where you'd gone. Anyone know how YCaz is going? Another name I haven't seen on this board for a while.
As I keep telling everyone, I am perfectly normal. So far that I have just discovered that I forgot to go to a classical concert the other night. I am a subscriber, so it's not so financially painful but I was really looking forward to this one. Don't know why I forgot; just came home from work and crashed on the bed. Forgot to check the diary.
Just by the way, what does bogof mean? I've only just found out that LOL is not little old lady. :-o)

I'm not married but I bet my weddng would be worse.Bring your own sandwiches and sing to yourself.
It always used to be a bit of a buffet in the church hall didn't it?

Now,if I could just get One Hand and Wheels married off,I wouldn't mind pushing the boat out.
There's a thought!

Although the wedding was a farce from start to finish. i have to laugh really and would give it a 1 out of 10. My cousin and her new hubby are as tight as a short belt strapped round the Michelin Man. We turned up at the registry office at 12pm but the actual ceremony started at 1pm. The groom later said that he made us arrive at 12 because people are always late and he wanted us all there on time. What arrogance. Everyone was not happy and the best man turned up at 10 past 12 and even he didnt know when the ceremony started.

After the wedding the reception was worse. We had it at a 3 star hotel in Southend. The sit down dinner lasted 3 hours from starters to desert. The guests kept getting up to go to the bar or for a fag. The staff number was poor, the dessert tasted awful and the portions of the main course was tiny. They didn't have any teaspoons when they served up the coffees and teas at the end. We had to use a clean fork or spoon we had at our seats. The interval between main course and dessert was 1 hour.

The 3 tier wedding cake was not cut. The groom wanted to take the whole cake home sop he could eat it later on. A seperate cake had been made for us guests. The lady who made the cake spent several days making it and a couple of hundred pounds for the ingredients and her reward was two small ruby earrings. She had to be polite but she had a look on her face.

To cap it all there was no DJ. The groom and bride merely recorded a tapeful of songs and put a cassette player in the dance room. Plus the songs weren't rhythmic enough except a few. We didnt have a clue what to dance along to as there was no DJ to instruct us.

Good night everyone.
And Liz...... No one, but no one ever affects my sleep!

When we were younger, in our thirties, Allan used to get so frustrated with me.
If we had a row, and went to bed.... he would be awake all night, bless him.
ME?
I can sleep on a barbed wire fence... ;-0)

love to all and a hug to all who want one.

Hi all,

Claire I am so glad the card arrived on time and that you had a great start to your day. I tipped Jeniwren off as I didn't see anything up and just hoped I had got the day right, me and my memory, had I written it down on my calender properly, was I making a boo-boo? lol

Mary, hi my busy friend, so glad Mary is enjoying making the bags and got a little gift to make her feel special. Happy Birthday to your son tomorrow, more memories for you as you think back over the years eh? How lovely that you saw your little greatnephew - I remember when you told us he was born and was Downs, it's great that his family have come to terms with things and I bet his sister will be a wonderful sister, friend, helpmate for him as he grows and develops.

Carole, hope the visit to the docs went better than you expected.
Sharron, you understand the feelings so well.
Ben, good to see you back and glad you are being kept busy lol Sorry to hear your Uncle is ill, I am sure you are all giving him lots of support through such a difficult time.

To all I haven't mentioned, my apologies. I am stuck here again today as o.h. took the car to work, his knee is too sore to cycle, aaaaah :>((
That'll teach him to look where he is going when he moves things in the garden and forgets to put them back!

Better get myself sorted out, as not been up long, he woke me with a cuppa to tell me he had to take the car and I couldn't get back to sleep, have not had a lot of sleep the last couple of nights due in part to his strop on Sunday evening.

take care, hugs and thoughts to you all
