Gail, what fun, it will be lovely when finished by the sound of it and the colours sound pretty.
Barbra, I hope you don't have too many bruises tomorrow, no doubt it was your dignity thatw as most hurt!
Carole, we have our daughter and our son in law coming for New Year, we used to have the 3 boys as well but they all lead their own lives now.

Hi everyone, I started back to work today, was worn out and slept on sofa when I got home. My uncle phoned to say the SS didn't go to see my aunt today as expected. My sister went to see her and other uncle and aunt. We all think she is getting stronger and not as confused but still want her to go into a nursing home. This aunt has no cooker, central heating, washing machine, fridge, freezer, micro wave all the things most take for granted, Lou has never wanted them!!! Her toilet is at the end of her yard as she can no longer get upstairs, there is no lighting out there. Lou empties her comode walking holding onto her washing line! How we want better for her, and to start the proces of getting a nice place for her. No wonder she has money in the bank, she has never spent any! But at £2000 a month it will soon eat away her savings.
Anyone doing anything nice New Years Eve?

You asked for it Ann.;) The very tame colour I picked was a very pale lavender/pink with a slightly darker pink for over coat.
The colours OH picked out were lovely and bright as well, so I chose from those.
The under coat is called Grapeshot, which is a very dark pink/grape colour, the sponging effect for the top coat is also grape something, OH left the swatch at the shop, it is a musty lilac/lavender. OH and I got one coat of paint on for the under colour today, but because it is dark a second coat is needed. Reason for sponging is the house is very old, the walls are rendered and very rough, so the sponging creates the effect of roughness and helps to cover the imperfections.
I was think I was trying to save money with the first colours I chose, as they matched the curtains and bedspread etc. We are getting new carpet and I was trying to be frugal. But, OH said, we are doing the whole room up so new curtains, blinds and bedspread are part of the deal. We did the room up when we purchased the house 13 years ago. We had a very tight budget and had second-hand carpet, curtains from the reject shop and blinds that did not fit, but were on sale at the time. Silly man has given me carte blanch on the room. So watch this space.
More for later.
Love and hugs
Gail
PS we got about 90 mils of rain since the 21 December, grass is growing and even my wisteria has a few flowers, our silk tree is also flowering for the second time in 12 years. So I have some flowers in the garden as well.

So pleased that you have rain Gail, long may it last - well not so long that you end up with floods. So what colour did you have in the end? Don't tell us half a story. Carole, your Aunt is amazing isn't she? Mary, hope your SADD light is working for you and that you didn't get too much snow and that Coleen got back from Niagara OK. Loved the wording on your T shirt - "All I want for Christmas is 5 minutes of peace and quiet". as you say, very apt for you. Kathy, your Gt Gt Nephew sounds beautiful, what a lovely Christmas gift. Hazel, hope you enjoyed your Christmas. Barbra hope your snow has gone and you have not had any new.
Everyone else including Deanna, Liz, Eileen (if she looks in), Joyce, YCaz, Carolina, Ben and those whose names escape me, hope you are well.

It is still raining here, you probably think I am even more crazy than usual, but it is amazing and the grass is really greening again. It really was a sad year without much rain. And yes, i have been out for a paddle in the water. Water tanks are starting to fill up.
We are repainting our bedroom and went to get the paint yesterday. OH put a stop to the colours I had picked. He wanted to know what was wrong with me as they were very bland colours and not me at all. He picked out some different, vibrant swatches of colour and made me choose from those. He was right the new colours are much better.
Love and hugs to all

Hi how nice to see some old friends posting. So nice to catch up.
Prayers go out to Carolina xx
Been to see my aunt this afternoon and she seems a little stronger still! Her legs had more strenght when we helped her sit up higher, she was able to help us by pushing on the bottom of the bed. Her voice is a little louder so again stronger. Still very confused, she has been moved to a different ward and it confused her so much she didn't know if she was still in the same hospital or town!! Even though they would have pushed her in her bed through the corridors. You have to smile.
Thinking of Joyce who I phoned today. Had a good chat even thought she is very low at the moment.
Back to work Tuesday where has the time gone! xx

Well it's finally snowing here, gently, but huge flakes. The bare trees look so lovely with a white blanket. it's mighty cold too, but we are warm inside, except for C who has driven her daughter miniMary to Toronto, about 1 1/2 hours each way in good weather, goodness knows how long it will take this time. mini is having 3 days with her uncle and g/f. Apparently we are to receive a fair load of snow in the next 24 hours, the sky looks very heavy and joint patrol reports generalised aching. Gareth is revved up today, not sure why, but he's VERY loud and VERY busy. I received a t-shirt for Christmas which reads "All I want for Christmas is 5 minutes of peace and quiet". How very appropriate. I want to wish a very warm and fulfilling new Year to all my friends on here, you have no idea how much you all mean to me. Thank you for cards received and good wishes via FB and by PM here. I have my SADD light running to try and withstand the winter gloom. Love and hugs, Mary

Liz - sounds like he is walking on thin ice - so to speak. Mine's a diabetic but he is pretty good at eating a well rounded meal - well he is a well rounded person. He is outside pulling a wall down on the side of the house - it never has been straight where there is this add on to the building and up till now we have let the hedge grow to obscure it. He had practically obliterated the hedge and is out there working till dark which is quite late with the daylight saving. He came in earlier as he had managed to take a chunk out of his hand - done my nurse duties and then he had his dinner of left over lamb and peas, potatoes, carrots and brocolli and he has gone back outside to play happily.

Hi Kathy, as I told you on the phone, take care with the shovelling and only do your drive, not the street! Don't want you getting sued! Glad the baby is well and what a lovely way to start the New Year for your sister and her family, with a new grandson. May they all thrive! And you and J. too of course.
I knew it was all too good to last here! I was so tired after the last week or so, my head is still lumpy and bumpy and I get headaches sometimes so stayed asleep more than usual on Boxing Day. O.h. brought a cuppa up around 2pm but I fell asleep again, and instead of him coming back as he had said after half an hour he left me sleeping. I got up at 4pm (this is also how I am when the fm and cfs catches up with me) and went downstairs to get another cuppa and something to eat. Opened the fridge to get milk and saw that o.h. had been to the local shop, and bought sausages, the kind we buy often as they are almost 90% meat and very good, no fat comes out when they are baked and very flavoursome. I then spotted the chicken carcass from C. Day, it was a big one so there had been plenty left for the roast dinner on B.Day evening, but that was when I went to bed B.Day morning. Now it was almost picked clean by the greedy pig I have to live with! When I asked why he had eaten it he said he didn't know I meant to use it for the meal, yet I had said how much was left as I dished up dinner for him, my son and myself. He is always a pig for protein but doesn't eat enough carbohydrate, something the info he has been given about the diabetes he has been diagnosed with, says he should eat more of. He was probably too lazy to get a roll from the bread bin, some salad and the ham I had there for lunch. Because I complained about him eating the chicken, he went up in the air and started his usual antics so I ended up watching tv upstairs in the bedroom and just coming down for a cuppa and some toast later on. When I finally came downstairs around ten to get something else to eat, he got up and went to bed. Then I noticed that the card I gave him was in the recycling bag - I felt like ripping the one up he gave me - it means nothing. I think he is upset because neither of his sons have been in touch, both miles from home and one only got him a rubbish card and the other one no gift or phone call, but it's not my fault. When I logged on here later on, there was an ecard saying thanks for making a nice dinner on C. Day (said he appreciated my efforts more than I knew) and for his presents etc and glad that my son was well enough to come round. He had obviously sent it earlier in the day. Instead of having a pleasant lazy day together he had to lose his temper again, and spoil everything. It's like living with Jekyll and Hyde, and I am so sick of him not making the effort to follow the 'rules' about his diabetes diet. I had told him to tell his Dad and family not to get him diabetic chocolate as it isn't worth the cost, used to be full of sorbitol so gave upset stomachs and now has aspartame in which I thought his stepmother avoided like the plague, being a strict vegan and very healthy-eating conscious. Yet they gave him three different Boots diabetic chocolate things and he has already eaten most of them. If he thinks I am going to end up his carer while he loses a leg or something because he won't do as the doctor told him, he can think again.
Loathsome little man, and he will act like nothing happened today I suppose. He won't see the doctor about his temper problems but one of these days he will give himself a heart attack or something with the rage that boils up inside him or he will end up with a cracked skull when I thump him with something hard!
Roll on when he goes back to work

Dear Gail, your lovely four leaved clovers must have worked in reverse, so to speak and given you rain. I hope it solves problems without creating others. All best wishes to you this Christmas time my friend, I loved my bookmark - thanks if I haven't already said it.
Mary, I know you feel blessed but I just worry about the dangers of the mishaps that happen so often with glass, thinking eyes and glass mainly or something happening in the night when everyone else is asleep. I think Megan's gift is lovely and hope she gets such great pleasure from helping Jospehine. How sad that she is broody but no likelihood of having her own child, I knew that feeling once but was blessed myself with my son, conceived the first week of trying after so many difficult years, how could he not be meant.
Lily, I had to get up in exactly the same way as you when I fell, there were people trying to help but they couldn't keep their footing and I couldn't be pulled up due to the fibromyalgia hurting in my shoulders, so had to get onto all fours and then they steadied me as I stood up. There are still lumps and bumps on my head at the back, wonder what a phrenologist would make of them now, they weren't there before !!! I am sorry you are having such a problem with the blood tests etc and hope something can be discovered that can be easily treated. Luckily the ice and snow have gone at the mo altho taking my son home last evening there was a sharp frost again. I empathise re the boiler and not having heating as that's one of the reasons why I had to leave my house, I had no money to get mine fixed, but luckily can get a grant now. Is there nothing like that for you as you and o.h. are over 60? It must have been very miserable for you all. I hope you managed to enjoy Christmas despite the problems tho love.
My son finally came round about 5pm - o.h. went to fetch him, as son had been poorly early, we think picking up a bug from a buffet he attended at a pub on C. Eve. He wasn't his usual self and left quite a lot of his dinner which is most unusual for him, but at least he had a good meal and kept it down, and I drove him back home around 10pm. He liked his gifts and got me some nice things, The Stavros Flatley book that I had hinted at and a lovely book about Norwich, memories from people born around the same time as my Mum and a cd with it, a bunch of pink roses and a lovely card as always. Oh and he already got me the Soldiers cd a few weeks ago, let me have it early! The Norwich book is written as people spoke the stories so 'broad Norfolk' and altho I haven't listened to it yet, I expect the cd will have some broad accents on it lol O.h gave me chocolates, only one box this year, and the Susan Boyle cd as well as a surprise (unrequested) cd of Will Young's hits, severeal other 'surprises' (mostly things I had hinted at or shown him in the shops lol) and some money towards new boots - am hoping a pair I fell in love with will be reduced soon. Took us ages to open all our presents!
Better get to bed as I am dog tired, so hope everyone is ok and had a nice time, and that the weather will be kind as we all start on the winddown after Christmas and the build up to New Year.
love Lizxxxx

Oh LIZ don't think 'poor you' as far as I am concerned. Despite the accidents, messes and general chronic chaos, I am VERY belssed. I have a roof over my head, food in the frig, warm slippers on my feet, a working heating system and a family who love me and I love as well. Despite the seemingly endless list of complaints we are blessed and have a very good life - in spots. Just have to share Megan's reaction to my gift to her - I announced that megan has a new foster daughter named josephine. she burst into tears and sobbed for 5 minutes, then asked when can i go and visit her? oh help, hadn't thought of that. I've paid for 3 months of sponsorship of an orphaned child in Sierra Leone in meg's name. Colleen says I couldn't have thought of anything better for meg, who has recently realised that her biological clock is running down and all she wants is to have a child of her own. Josephine will help to fill that space in her heart. Back to check on Tom, wishing you all many blessings and happiness in the new year. mary

Hi Everyone, firstly i would like to thank you all who sent me Christmas cards.DUTCH, YCAZ, LIZ AND CAROLE (Tinkerbelle)I am still getting fasting blood tests done every fortnight now. Some problem with Liver, Doctor says. No heating at the moment, it broke down on friday, rang for Gas company to have a look they looked at the boiler and said that it was banjaxed (beyond repair)i would need to get a new Mother? board, but with it being Christmas-time that the stores were closed as they were stocktaking and it would be 4-5 of January before they open again, cost about 700euros, if we were living in a Council house they would have done it for us that day.cost free. Liz, you please take care, i did the same thing last year just after Christmas thought that i was walking on water(lol) that was on the road only realised that it was ice when i went legs up on the flat of my back and hit the back of my head, i felt like a whale couldn,t get up for ages, tried kicking my heels into the ice but no good, had to try and turn on my belly and get up on all fours to get back to the footpath and make my way up that way, luckly there were no cars on the road, now terrified to go out until it thaws this year. I would like to wish everyone on here a very happy Christmas and a very peaceful New Year.I know that it maybe not the right place to say it, but i hope that anyone on here that has family in war-torn countries will soon have them home safely to their families again. Lily.

Oh my poor Mary, whatever shall we do with you? I do hope the thumb heals ok and the others are alright with Mary hurting herself and Sarah getting glass in her foot too. I don't know how you cope with it all? I think it is time to get a softer floor than the ceramic tiles or start to child proof, or Sarah and sometime Gareth and Maximary, proof the kitchen before there is a dreadful accident - it must cost a small fortune with all the wasted food when Sarah gets to the fridge, can you not put child locks on?
Hope the rest of Christmas goes smoothly and your son and his g/f help take the pressure off by being new novelty visitors who distract Sarah from mischief and maybe get Gareth involved with something to tire him out. Whatever way you play it, have a lovely time together and rest that hand as much as poss.
David, Happy Christmas to you, and hope 2010 is a better year for us all.
