Two years! Blimy. I have made some lovely friends on here, and I think of you as my family. Sometimes we don't see as much of some people as we would like due to other pressing reasons, but we know our family is there when we are ready. For me I can see a great change in myself, and a lot of it is due to the support I have been given over the last two years on here. Thank you all for staying with me xxx

I would also like to thank Carole for starting the thread. I may not be as badly affected by the various disorders as some of you but when I did need some support it was there.
I have made friends here too.

Mary I am so pleased that at last you have resigned, hopefully that means more time for you to take for yourself, less pressure and hopefully time for you to heal. Two years, it doesn't seem possible, such a lot of comfort has been given in those two years. Mary, you have given as much as you have received.

Carole, I second Mary's thanks for starting the thread.

Very wise to copy off your Uncle's stuff a good addition to your family history I am sure.

Dear Mary, the good you have done so many people is well worth putting up with you for two years my friend, what a lucky thing for many of us when you joined gr. Glad you have renewed and hope things get lots better for you and yours, good thing you have resigned at last, you don't need the hassle or stress altho I know a wage is handy, it is sometimes not worth the pain of the job.

take care and love to all - I am so tired and got on here late hence few posts.

TWO years this thread has been going and helping people. Thank you dear Tink.
Hi everyone, just popping in briefly to say 'happy anniversary' thanks to carole. I am still supposed to be off here but it gets harder as the days drag on. I have officially resigned from work today and already feel better.
Hopefully will be back soon, have also decided to renew my sub to GR, so you're stuck with me for another year.
My med has been increased a bit so have better pain control.
love to you all, thanks for putting up with me for 2 years.
hugs

Thanks Ann. I have copied the stuff from my uncle and Lou has said I can give the orriginals to his son. Also copied some old photos for myself. I'm not taking any more stuff in to her now. I don't want her room to get cluttered up like her house. I now realise she can't say no to anyone elses pass me downs, or throw anything away, in case it's of any use to someone. So hope we will get some charity bags soon. Or it's going to be recycled. Have a pile of 1970's magazines anyone want a good read!!

Did you all see Keith Hoff has had a stroke? Hope he makes a good recovery. xx

Carole, if your Aunty is in a residential home be careful what you take in to her. My Dad had a scrap book full of old photos in with him and, after he died we never did find it again, several other bits went missing so don't take valuable photos or papers in. Think about copying photos for her if she wants them in there.

Oh yes Carole.Stella Mitchell,Land of Lost Content,CravenArms,Shropshire. She would bite your arm off for it, and the handbage, gas rings, curtain fabric.

She has a good part of my mother's treasures (clutter).

Have a day out and take it to her.You will be glad you did.

Book this ambulance and go back to bed now I think, cough, sneeze, splutter.

Carole Report 24 Jan 2010 23:03

Phew what a day! Been so busy. Steve and I went to Aunties and threw away lots of old curtain fabric (some of which was at my parents when I was a kid). Cooking pans, old handbags, mags, even a broken element from a gas fire, wrapped in newspaper dated 1976. Found a bracelet and ring that she thought had gone 'missing'. But I was so excited to find letters from my uncle (her brother) from when he was a prisoner of war in WW2, under the Japs. Also poems written at the time. A photo of my grandfathers brother and his wife, one of my grandfather in his WW1 uniform, on card writen to his father giving him his war number and saying he is soon to move out (1914) and other photos. Also some certificates (some of which I had bought copies of). Took photos, junk jewelry, and good stuff to Lou, and cardigans, brand new towels, tea towels and a nightie. By the way anyone want some loose leaf tea price ticket on it 46p!!

Ben, now forget the cousins for a while and concentrate on Thomas.

Benjamin

Benjamin Report 24 Jan 2010 14:03

I want to find my 3xgreat grandfather Thomas Musgrave's death in America after 1900. He is on the 1900 US census in North Fayette, PA.

It was his son George who had the cousin born about the same time in 1856 in the same village. As said that was a very common occurrence for two male or female cousins to be born about the same time and given identical first names. In my case one was registered (My Georges cousin) one wasn't, one died as a infant (my Georges cousin) one didnt. Simple.

I am so pleased that Georges father Thomas Musgrave emigrated later in life meaning I have a direct ancestor who emigrated. Because that is such a good find, OCD is trying to come up with illogical scenarios to make me think otherwise and all these scenarios are totally and utterly untrue to the max. The two Georges were born to two brothers. That is the total truth so much that doubts shouldn't enter my mind. As said namesake cousins in families was and still is rife.

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 24 Jan 2010 13:11

Ben, it is good that you understand that. continue to assert your positivity over your doubts and you will win. Move on now to the next stage. who are you searching for next?

Benjamin

Benjamin Report 24 Jan 2010 12:39

What I have to understand is that OCD is OCD and it is called the doubting disease. If I find something good in genealogy OCD will try and ridicule it and come inbetween me and my good findings and come up with very illogical scenarios.

When I got my great grandmothers 1889 birth certificate in Islington I couldnt find the address Southampton Terrace on any street directory or map and I had this weird idea they were making an address up but then I found the address listed in electoral rolls and it had changed its name and become incorporated as part of the main street it was down.

And two namesake cousins being secret twins is a very, very impossible scenario and out of reach but OCD makes me have these kind of doubts and impossible scenarios and I now realise that scenario is completely and totally untrue. I have to just pay these doubts no attention whatsoever.

Sharron I have some spare paint from my chicken pens if he would like that.;)

Carole, we know and understand how Louie has been so much on your mind and how much there is to do. Even when there are other people around to help. I know when my mother went into care the first time then the second then the move to the hospital, it is all drama and really adds to the stress.

Any jolt to the head can cause the brain to move around, depending on the jolt it can move back and forward with force many times. The head does not even need to connect with anything, say concrete. High speed car accidents also are bad for the effect it leaves on the brain from the movement.

Love and hugs

We had new carpet upstairs and decorated the old man'd bedroom in colours of his own choosing(and of course he chose Farrow and Ball!)
So what does he go and do? Has a stroke in it of course.

That was the first new carpet he had ever had and he had usually decorated with a bit of paint somebody might have given him because they had it left over from painting their cow pen.

There's gratitude for you!

Deanna I didn't have an appointment. You get a note from your Dr and just go when the Xray department are open. I went yesterday. Another thing I couldn't have done so easily a while ago. And I went on my own. So I now have to wait two weeks for the results. Also have to see the practise nurse for a spirometry test.

Sympathy to Sharron xx

Gail I bet your room looks and smells lovely. I love the smell of new carpet. xx

Liz I didn't know you could have concussion if you hadn't slept after a bang on the head. Hope you are feeling better soon. Good luck with the therapy also x

Hi Gail, glad your bedroom is pretty much finished and you will enjoy sleeping there tonight I am sure.

Yes, have a jelly brain at the mo, just hope I get back to as normal as I can very soon, like after mid February so I can say it was my jelly brain that chose the rude card for Valentines day, how I hate having to find cards that keep him quiet but are the least hypocritical, if that makes sense, it will to those who know me well lol

Carpet was finally layed on Thursday, blinds arrived on Wednesday. OH worked overtime yesterday so blinds, curtains, chest of drawers and bed are all in place now, just have to make the bed with OH help and will be able to sleep there tonight. Best of all I will have my bed ring back so will now be able to get up without worrying OH. Old bedspread will match for the time being, or until I find what I am looking for eventually.

Liz just spotted your post, have been reading your other thread, so you have jelly brain. It really does give the brain a huge swishing when you have such a knock. Hope the headaches improve.

OH wants my assistance so must go.

Sympathy to Sharron.

Love and hugs

Sharron, hope you feel better soon! I just had this image in my mind when you mentioned demolishing the shed. I just know you are going to get your Dad involved somehow, you couldn't deny him the pleasure could you of knocking down walls lol

To everyone else, hello and hope all your troubles sort themselves out.
Colin, thought it was you but wanted to be sure. Haven't seen the hedgehogs as it has been so cold but the nuts I put out were disappearing so I wasn't sure if they had come out when there was a lull in the weather and eaten them, kept replenishing the food tray.
Yesterday o.h. spotted the culprit, the little field mouse I had seen after the farmer ploughed the field a few months back. He had been glad to dash across the patio and steal a nut or two, but o.h. watched him for several minutes this morning and took some mini video of him, dashing back and forth in the same direction and he managed to carry away at least twenty or thirty unshelled peanuts lol emptying the dish completely!
Am hoping the hedgehogs found themselves somewhere well protected so have survived the snow and ice and low temperatures.

Well i got myself to the docs, on the bus, darn thing was late arriving so had to phone the surgery to say I would be late, was only 5 mins late tho, better than I expected so didn't have to wait too long. He isn't the usual doc I see but is one of the senior partners/doctors in the practice and was very nice, very thorough, and says I have post concussive syndrome, not that I thought I was concussed but he said you don't have to be unconscious or want to sleep after a fall to have concussion. It could last for a while yet (perhaps conveniently after o.h.'s birthday which he had been saying he wanted us to drive to the coast and guess who would have had to drive lol) and meantime I have to rest and not drive till I feel up to it! I also have to go back and see my usual doctor in a week or so, he picked up on something else that occured last weekend and asked if my regular doctor knew, and said I needed some time out to myself to rest! O.h. didn't take a lot of notice when I told him and I still had to cook dinner when I got in!

Another thing happened yesterday which was good. Some of you may recall I have had a real mix up over counselling from MIND and got messed around by the nlp chap and the other co-ordinator too.
Well before Christmas I chased up where I was on the list, I had spoken to a coordinator in August and was supposed to be back on the lists and nothing had happened. She was about to leave the job, none of them seem to stay long, and said she would put me at the top of the list as she had forgotten in August. Had heard nothing so chased it up again earlier this week and the receptionist was horrified at the way I have been treated, said there is a new co-ordinator now and lots of new counsellors so she would get the co-ordinator to call me. She did so yesterday and was really nice, I have an appointment on 10th Feb at 4pm for her to assess my needs and then hopefully she will have a counsellor who she thinks might help and I can start regular sessions again. I hardly dare get hopeful after all the previous hassles but maybe this time it will be useful to me so I can start changing the way my life is going.

Today is the 20th anniversary of my Dad's death from lung cancer, he died in the afternoon while Mum was visiting him, I had left an hour before. She nipped out for a breath of air and the nurses at the hospice where he had been for two days, turned him, which helped the fluid filling his lungs to move faster and hurry the process along, it was the kindest thing for him and for Mum.

I hope he is pleased with the way his precious grandson, my lad, has grown into an adult, he was only 7 at the time of Dad's death. Had he stayed alive he would be 99 now - good grief!
