Eddie,

What stats would they be?

eRRolSheep Report 19 Dec 2007 20:32

Eddie, I am not a great Labout supporter I must admit, but what you say is very true - economically the United Kingdom is actually very strong currently. Too often, small businesses try to blame current economic strategy for their own incompetencies.
Why do some continue to thrive?

Sue Report 19 Dec 2007 20:31

What is best for the local community rarely has any effect on Central Government. I am not trying to be argumentative but I am on a few panels within my county and yes we can push for better services locally but it will make no difference to central economy policies.

The last ten years under the Labour party has moved this country to the top of the tree, we have now the best economic stats we have ever had.

eRRolSheep

eRRolSheep Report 19 Dec 2007 20:27

Surely we vote at a local level for the MP that we "believe" will do the best for our respective communities.

eRRolSheep

eRRolSheep Report 19 Dec 2007 20:26

"We" voted the Labour party in - in many respects it is immaterial who actually leads any given party. This is not a state whereby the president/premier/prime minister etc dictates. On the contrary, we still live in a country where debate is encouraged at all levels and the fact that Gordon Brown is the current figurehead is neither here nor there - does anyone really believe that he lays down the law and everyone else agrees?

David Report 19 Dec 2007 20:26

ok thats fair coment but because im under 40 I cannot trust a tory government to make it better as i was worse off personally off ten years ago than today
But i do think gb is no good as pm and he wasnt elected either

Sue

Sue Report 19 Dec 2007 20:25

Errol,

Doesn't matter who is voted in, the new government will inherit the current treasury cr/db and they certainly won't cut taxes as their coffers would empty pretty quickly.

The VAT rates should be adjusted and give small businesses a fighting chance against the 'big boys'. Yes the rates of corporation tax have been slightly adjusted but something needs to be done about employer's NIC rates, they are crippling!

Maybe if the governments were accountable when they fail to keep their promises they might be more honest when touting for votes at election time too.

But we DIDN'T vote GB in

eRRolSheep

eRRolSheep Report 19 Dec 2007 20:20

Change the ruling party after two terms? I don't think so!
That is a part of the free society we live in, surely. After all, you all voted (didn't you?) - it is the choice of the people. And those that chose not to vote have no right to then voice their dismay that whoever happens to hold the seat of government is "not doing the job".
Governments come and governments go but it is the people that put them there. Maybe we should all look at how we vote in future and base our votes on sound argument rather than the old "I voted Labour because I always have done".

David Report 19 Dec 2007 20:15

the problem i have is i dont think i can vote for anyone any more as they are all as bad as each other
I need to know what they stand for can someone tell me what cameron will do to make things better i wish i knew

Sue

Sue Report 19 Dec 2007 20:12

Part of our problem is we are insured up to the hilt:

Life
House
Contents
Unemployment
Sickness
abduction by aliens

Plus heavy medical insurance and pension payments.

If we don't look out for ourselves the state sure as hell won't if anything happens to either one of us..

We are lucky cos we can pay for insurance but what about people who can't? Hard times can befall anyone, when OH was self employed money was tight! and we'll never forget what that was like.

Stealth taxes in the UK are grossly unfair and we pay them on everything! We just don't appreciate the % levels....

David Report 19 Dec 2007 20:04

i must admit i hated the tories when they were in power and im better off now than ten years ago as i was unemployed then
but having said that gordon brown is no good at the job i think there should have been a election when tony blair went as he hasnt been chosen as elected pm

I don't think Gordon Brown would dare to admit how bad things are considering he's been our chancellor for the last 10 years - it's not going to reflect well on him is it? xx

I am so fed up with being told how well off we all are......................grrrrrrrrr

Forgot to add, the only people doing well in life are GB & his cronies, they are NEVER going to be hard up & having to make cutbacks in their lives, they just get richer & richer, us we just get poorer & poorer, as you may have guessed i am totaly fed up with the way we are just being walked all over.
