Hi Lou

We go to the one that opened last year, near to the garden centres in Leeds, we are just up the road from them so its handy to just pop in.

They are really helpful, always tell us which dogs are/are not suitable for us.

We did try another one, I think it was called Ponderosa, but the RSPCA advised us not to use them....

Jude - i didn't see it (obviously as i was knee high in poop, lol)
But it's right - there are LOADS of staffies in kennels at the moment (it's the most prominant breed)
There are also Loads being euthanased as it's the worst breed to rehome due to bad press... :-(((
Poor little baby's....
They are beautiful, loving dogs though in the right hands...

Oh, and if i ever saw anyone torturing a dog like that jude you'd be seeing me on the news!!!! - for different reasons!!!

Staffs Col Report 13 Dec 2007 11:34

My last dog was a Christmas puppy that had been dumped. she was a cross bearded collie who I found under a railway bridge just after the New Year. We thought she had been lost and took her to the local police station then spent the rest of the day worrying over her. By 6pm OH could't stand it any longer and asked if we could have her so back off we went to the police station and paid the £1.50 fee to have her (on the understanding that if her owners came forward within 30 days we would hand her back. Did they heck and that lovely dog gave us 15 years of love and affection.

And yes go with the dogs Trust (It is not practical for us to have a dog at the present so we sponsor 2 through the charity)

Toothfairy Report 13 Dec 2007 11:33

Lee - stick with the Dogs trust - they know what they're doing!!! ;-))))
I work with the parents of Amanda Sands (Dogs trust manager at Leeds)
They are fantastic at finding the right dog for you, it would be devastating for you to welcome a pet home then have to give it up due to behavioural problems (happens all the time!)

I don't think they will be rehoming now til after Christmas (for obvious reasons!) But look forward to hearing which dog finds his/her forever home with you!!!!!
( I may even know the dog!!!?)

Did anyone watch Breakfast TV this morning, they showed David Grant (the vet from Rolf Harrisses show) at an rspca kennel l think Birmingham - he had the softest loveliest staffi with stitches all down and round his neck where some sick so and so's had tied him to park bench and then let their dogs and mates kick and bite hell out of him - and he still kiseed the vet!!!
The latest craze apparently is to have a Bullterrier or simular breed or X - its the latest bling bling fashion!!!! when they can't feed them or don't want them they are dumped, rspca and rescue kennels are saying its the worst situation at the moment so many being dumped - must say we have a few more here in town, but most seem to be looked after. It will be interesting to see what the situation is like after christmas.
If l had my way the owners would be castrated so they can't breed anymore idiots like themselves.

Lou - take care, if you're not well you can't help the dogs:o))

Hi Lou

Me and hubby have registered with the dogs trust, we would love to give a dog a home as we have moved to a small village surrounded by fields etc.

Its just a waiting game at the moment, waiting for the right one for our family as we have small children.

If anyone has any advice on where else we could look we would be extremley grateful. The RSPCA have said we cant have one from them due to our twins being under 5.

hi toothfairy, i agree why don't people just sponsor dogs instead of having them also, to most dogs are a novelty till the novelty wears off it's digusting, i always pop into my dogs home and donate something for the poor dogs that have been left, i have also found this site which is good instead of buying a dog just sponsor one..

Yes - I agree with all been said - But i've had a change of heart...

Instead of knocking them out i'd like to put them in the 3ft by 3ft cage at work for Christmas...!

I'm freezing cold, tired and VERY grumpy...!!

It's also true that a lot of the dogs being dumped are pedigree dogs!!!!! My main reason for 'breading' to be against the law!!!!!!!

Off to thaw out a bit more......

I just don't understand the mentality of some people, a dog is for life, not just for Christmas, why do people buy any pets as presents, if someone wanted a pet, surely they would go and get one.

I know so many people who have bought pets for family members and a couple of months later their trying to find new homes for them.

We've given all our pets a good home until the day they have died, and at present our dog is now 17, but still going stong.

It makes my blood boil - why do some people think that pets can be disposed of like an old pair of shoes? Our local paper sometimes has pictures of the dogs and cats at the Bath shelter and I always end up blubbing - I'm hoping to do some dog-walking for them next year. You all do a GREAT job!

That is dreadful - it's about time people got the shock of a mini sentence for neglect, maybe then others will think twice.

I know it's not the same but we buy cat and dog food and leave in the trolley for deserted animals - our co-op runs the project all year round.

unwanted dogs are being dumped in the run up to Christmas - At some shelters more than 90 dogs per day!!!!! - This is in England, with ''the nation of Animal lovers''!!!???

Never mind - They'll be some idiot willing to get up at 5am, in freezing, icy conditions and dedicate their time to feeding, walking, cleaning and loving these 'rejects'..... Don't give them a second thought - you just enjoy your Christmas!!!
*Tut*
Don't some people make you want to knock them out...
