I'll be accused of being homicidal but - if you choke a Smurf, what colour does he turn?

I know I am sad but I am still laughing at this gem!!

wasn't meaning to blow my own trumpet there with the word "brilliant" - just that people seemed to like it

AnnCardiff

AnnCardiff Report 5 Dec 2007 11:09

I've got a brilliant childhood memories article - very long - I'd have to try and copy and paste of our local website - it was used in an exhibition in our Cardiff Central Library when they had wartime memories of Cardiff running! Want me to try?

I didn't see the joke but I did see Ann's thread saying that she had removed it and I knew exactly which joke she meant and the inferrances of that joke. People then went on to say what spoil sports some people where. Did anyone stop to think why these people might have been offended?

As you didn't see the original joke and there is nothing offensive in this thread I can understand you not wanting to delete. So how about a change of title for the thread? C'mon I'm trying! ;-))))))

PS. if this thread goes woosh it's got nowt to do with me!

Just remembered - Barbara Kelly - married to Bernard Braden!! Knew I would remember it - she used to wear what were considered to be outrageous earrings - not these days I suppose!

Sorry Rose, I'm going to have to have my say! ;-)))))

My OH was sent this joke in a text the other day. When he told it to me I didn't laugh as I found it somewhat racist and un-pc for this day and age.

Can we please accept that some people found this joke offensive and not deride them for their views. And could I ask you Rose please to remove this thread so as not to carry on the bad feeling.

Thanks for listening

In 1953 [I was just seventeen] HRH got crowned and that's when we got our TV. First people in the area to get one - no we weren't rich - Dad had been in a horrendous motor-cycle accident [he was a pedestrian who was knocked down] and he got massive compensation for his injuries - so the TV arrived! The day of the coronation our house was full of relatives and neighbours. We lived in a two bedroomed cottage in the middle of nowhere - Mum made masses of sandwiches and gallons of tea and it was like a massive party. From then on I supopose our lives changed for ever. Only one channel, BBC which didn't come on air till 6:00 with newsreaders dressed as if they were going to an important function and speaking in very clipped accents. Programmes were few - and shut down was around 10:00 pm if I remember with the Natonal Anthem. Always on a Sunday night was "What's my Line" with Eammon Andrews hosting and the panel were Lady Barnet [who later committed suicide], Gilbert Harding, a grumpy old man, Barbara somebody who was married to Bernie sombody[!!] and a lady with a French name, memory's going! This was always followed by the Sunday play which was televised live so yo could be sure of a couple of mistakes. House always full cos everyone in the area gravitated to our house. The interval in the play had subjects like I described earlier and was long enough to make tea and sandwiches. We also sat in the dark to watch!! This was a regular Sunday night occurrence until gradually others got their own TVs and then programmes started earlier in the day and finished later. Long time before ITV came on line and we were fascinated by the advertisement - "You wonder where the yellow went when you brush your teeth with Pepsodent" - how naive and innocent we all were in those day - but lovely times nevertheless. I'll try and think of more if anyone is interested - See ya!! Love Ann XX

Crougar, I had one, a big cuddly one. Guess what his name was? I loved him so much, and I gave him to my littlest sister after I got married, when I went overseas to live, as she was heartbroken that I was leaving her.

Love
