When my son got married I said to my future daughter-in-law - I'm going to be a bitch to you cos I had a rotten mother in law!! Only joking of course, I was determined to be a lovely one and with her it really is easy - I love her like the daughter I never had - cannot think of a single thing I don't like about her

How horrible for you Ann.

I know of a few MIL's like that.

My MIL unfortunately died nearly ten years ago and happily we got on very very well. I considered her a friend as well as my MIL.

The only thing she ever really did to upset me, and it wasn't meant, it was just a genuine mistake as she thought I knew............

When OH and I announced we were getting engaged. She said * Will you be wanting the presents from his last engagement?*

He hadn't bothered telling me he'd been engaged two years before he met me the daft s*d.

Also she was adament that I'd been to NY with him, but it wasn't me it was the ex lol

Bless her she was mortified. xx

This has just made me realise, again, just how very lucky I have been with my Mum-in-law.
She is getting very frail now, at 94, and I am dreading the day when she is no longer around.
She has been a good friend to me.

Every time my baby girl cryed ( which babies do quite a bit ) my M.I.L. would say " Is she being horriable to youuu " this happened over and over again.
Months of this passed.......one day the M.I.L.came round,I had friends visiting, she spread a knitting pattern out on the floor ( very in charge ) baby toddled
onto pattern.Nanny pushes her backwards, baby cries...... I in complete triumph say " Ahhh....is SHE being horriable to youuuuuuu "!! Imagine to LOOK.

When a family member had her first son, whose father didn't want him, his fathers' mother said, he doesn't look like him. He is now his double.. Unfortunately lol

When my son was eventually born, after two miscarriages and endless weeks in hospital, I was over the moon and we called him Philip. When she first came to see him after his birth her first words were "What d'you want to go and call him a name like that for!!" I was mortified. Even moreso when I discovered doing my family tree that her father was called Philip!! Didn't know at the time just a name I had always liked. Just one of many many hurtful things she said to me over the years - I never ever retaliated
