My late mil was a lovely person, a second mother. On meeting her for the first time, my daughter A (then 3) said “Who you?, the immediate reply was “I’m Nanna” & that was just how MIL treated A for the rest of her life, never once making any difference between A & those Grandchildren that shared her own genes.
On her last stay in hospital, the nurses on the ward thought that I was her daughter, as she would look up at the clock & say “My daughter Carol will be here soon”. Knowing that she thought of me as her Daughter, was the best thing she could possibly have left me when she died.
I adored her & still miss her.

It's water off a ducks back now after 16 years! I sincerely hope that funeral one can't be topped so I take the view that the worst is over and I tolerate her. Hubby is very supportive as he is treated with equal insensitivity!

I could go on all night (and don't get me started on the Christmas presents and the out of date sweets for the kids) but it's very sad really. Would hate to be that spiteful and bitter!

Andrea - my MIL was like Mother Theressa in comparison - I think you win the "prize" for having the biggest cow for a MIL" I sincerely hope you have come to terms with it and not let her affect your life
I really feel for you - that is unbelievable. I hope no one can top that - dreading what might come next

'Two funeral cars is a waste of money so Andrea and her two kids can walk to the church, it's only round the corner'

This was for fil funeral when I was expected to walk with half of my family to the church while the other half of my family went in the car! Then I best dash back to the house for the loaves and fishes act with the £20 budget she set for me to deliver a buffet for 25 mourners. Pushed me over the edge that one did and we paid for an extra car and the buffet so I didn't look alienated and she didn't look shabby!

After I had my first my MIL was watching me breast feed and said cant tell me youve never done that before I was mortified ,she never failed to upset me every week. just like her son insensertive. !!

When I had my son, her first grandchild, she sent a card into the hospital saying; Disappointed its not a girl, better luck next time. When presented with a granddaughter a few years later, which was what she said she wanted, she hardly took any notice of her.

CG, an ex of mine, (altho we never married) well, his mother would constantly make reference to his ex-girlfriend. She was sooo paranoid that I was gonna take her boy away from her...so she went on & on about his ex....in the hope I'd get upset & pack him in.

Thing is with me, the more I know some1 is going out of their way in trying to wind me up, the more it makes me laugh!!...xx
