My MIL died a year ago, apparently she said to FIL before she died 'I think I might have been wrong about Sheila'. Whether this was a compliment or an insult, I will never know - in my opinion she was an interfering stirrer who said very nasty things behind people's backs (especially about OH and his sister) but appeared sweet and demure to their faces!

Goodness some of you had a tough time with your MILS makes me feel sad for you all my 2nd husband is mum was all ready passed away when I met him but my ex mil was the b***h from h**l makes your mil look easy to handle honest that is no joke !
She tried to get my daughter took off me at 7mnths old because she had nappy rash caused so much stress if my daughter was bad and I told her off she would tell me she would tell her gran on me we are not close my daughter and I though I did try she slapped me in the hospital when I told her not to force my daughter to eat as she hadn't done toilet for 14 days and when I found out I was pregnant with my 2nd child we where asked if we where having any more she said no she has enough with one she has got oh and she told me I should be tiding up as house was a mess with kids in it playing with toys and I had just had operation for gall stones and that was only a couple of things that she done to me
She died when my daughter was 8yrs old and I cried really but didn't want to say with relief

Goodness Val what horrible things she did to you.

My MIL isn't a problem, we live 70 miles away & she can't just 'pop' in when she wants :)
It hasn't always been like that, we lived five doors away from her for 17yrs, and for all that time we spoke to each other a total of 3yrs.
She interfered in everything I did, from putting my babies nappies on to the colour of bathroom paint.Did get to me, did she eck!!
I think the problem is with some MIL's, is they can't fully accept the their little boys have grown up and are worshipping (lol) another woman, jealousy, thats all it boils down to.

I am polite to her when we have to meet at family do's, but thats it, nothing more.

Hev x

My MIL is really good to me, I get on better with her than my hubby does at times, but the one thing that I cannot forgive her for is...

When I told her I was pregnant with my first she said
"oh I hope its a girl cause it would replace the little girl I lost" (she had a stillbirth fullterm the year before hubby) all she would go on about was "yes your carrying a girl, you should call her Hannah cause thats what my little girl was going to be called".

I prayed for a boy the full nine months, when the baby was born guess what ""it was a girl"" MIL was ecstatic but very annoyed that we didn't call her Hannah but Sarah "Where do you get Sarah from" she said "My Grandma was called Sarah and I aways wanted a girl called Sarah and if I have another girl she will be called Kate".
When we were in town her friends would stop to chat and most of them said "Well you've finally got your little girl then" this used to and still does make me so upset.

When I was having the 2nd one we asked for the sex of the baby and it was a boy, although we never told anyone else, when he was born hubby named him and she went off her head "you can't call him that" when asked why "all the Aarans I know are in prison or bad bu**ers" she only knows one!!! she turned round and said "well I'll not be calling him that name I will call him Boy instead" so hubby calmly said "oh well guess you won't see us very often then, if you can't call my son by his name then we can't come to see you, bye bye" and we walked out. She soon came round though cause she knew we wouldn't have gone back.

She thinks the sun shines out of the little lads backside now cause he is the spit of his dad and grandad.

She does have other things that have hurt but not as much as these ones did.

We married in April 1981. The weekend after easter, that year.Easter was lovely weather. Mum in law to be said she had a feeling it would snow on our wedding day. I was gobsmacked!
But more gobsmacked when I woke on my wedding day to find that it had indeed snowed heavily.
Think that didn't make for the best of starts to our relationship!

my mil is a back stabbing *****! her own daughter won't talk to her now or let her see her grandchildren. And yes she is another one that takes great delight in talking about oh ex wife. She doesn't like me cos were not married, and won't have anything to do with oh daughter from a diff relationship. His dad is lovely though (yes they're divorced.)

AnnCardiff Report 19 Dec 2007 16:39

we should condense all these stories into a book for potential mothers-in-law on "how not to treat your daughter-in-law"
or "Be nice to your daughter in law and hold on to your son"

CrunchyNuTTer

CrunchyNuTTer Report 19 Dec 2007 16:42

what about "be nice to you're children, they will be choosing you're HOME" lol.
