I always like to be in full possession of facts before signing a petition from a stranger.
Could I just point out that the child was not murdered. The father was convicted of manslaughter.
Also, this is not the first petition that the mother has instigated. It was taken to the House of Commons over three years ago following a petition regarding the length of time between death and burial due to two post mortems needing to be carried out. This formed part of the legal process.
As far as the current petition is concerned, criminals are NOT automatically released after serving only half of their sentence.

A mother's (and father's) grief is a terrible thing and we all cope in many different ways.

I just thought it was important to give a small bit of background information for balance.

Thank you Errol

I have put this up to ask people IF they want to sign it.
But as a mother I would want justice for my child whether it was murder or manslaughter. And regardless of who did it. I am supporting this mother in the fact that 3 years is not long enough for such a crime.

I agree, Jan.
Although I would be interested in finding out a few more details surrounding the crime - manslaughter is such a broad term these days, isn't it?
You can find out more on the Dorset Echo website.

I am merely playing devil's advocate and trying to get a balance of facts and agree that sentences are cut far too short.

But nobody is forcing anyone to sign Errol, people are signing because they want to.
If you don't want to sign then don't sign.

Errol

I have checked out the website for Dorset Echo, and have read the reports. I am even more determined to help this lady in her fight. She could not bury her son for 18 months because of the legalities of the case. He was convicted of manslaughter and served three and a half years. Thanks to this mother the law was changed so that no other family has to wait that long to bury there child.

If any one wants to read the reports
put Dorset Echo into browser bar and go to archives, in search bar put cathy franklin.

Thanks Jan,
I will go and have a look.
That must have been awful for poor Ryans mum to have had to have to wait that long to bury her son.
