They were much different then, plus it was expected new comers just didnt barge in and needed to introduce themselves,,then be accepted !!,,but back then many people just went away with their tails between their legs then some came along who wouldnt back down and had strong voices,and wouldnt be shown the door.

But mostly it was all new there wasnt another site like it,so was the best thing since sliced bread,,plus the owners were there alongside its members,,,also at the start there wasnt a general board,,that came much later,

There used to be so many funny threads that to sit and read brought tears that went on for days...,,,good debates,agree to disagree,,, then a divide where some only crowed together,strong opinions,good compionship for some,,
but like time,it all brings changes new personallities,new ways of expression,plus everything at some point does become to a stalemate situation,also peoples lives take them in other directions which may account for old faces missing aswell......

And it was only £5 membership,,,,,,,,,raised in 2004 to £7-50,,,,,,,,,per year not per 6 months for some,,,!!!

A couple of years when i joined i found the board to be clique and i felt most uncomfortable, i was never made to feel comfortable and often ignored it seemed there was a group of people who because they had joined at the begining thought they somehow had the right to make the rules and have the cheek to tell you what to do and who to speak to.
i also soon realised certain people put up goading threads and when i realised i just ignored there threads and do now, i have always spoke my mind and i have no problem with appologising if i feel i over stepped the line
i do think support would be here as much as it was for gaynor, and i would certainly be one to start it, only i donrt feel we have come accross the same cercumstances, but as its opinions that it wouldnt, well thats up to our selfs as this is just my opinion also, i think when you are part of COMMUNITY like genes change is daunting i love seeing the welcoming of new people and there love understanding and wit and more than anything we you have the choice weather a relation ship developes from that
in any community of such a large group there are going to be lyers thievs and trouble makers kind caring and supportive peolpe so again no one makes you talk to some one you dont like, but i see the attacks made publically on people asnd references of things that happened a long time aga pathetic move on move up

praps it's coz iam older than all of you, getting grumpy and all that

mo, once the boards changed, some people wouldn't come on chat to the breakfast and hot choc threads, they didn't get much response so couldn't see the point of doing it, plenty of other things to do so i don't post much now unless i see a thread i find interesting

I must admit I can't understand why people resent other people having fun or being silly...I told about a dealth once on the boards never again....

mo, there is silly and there is" oh god this is below my intelligence silly", i like the monks and firemen too but the people that were in it to start with have disappeared

I think people forget that are caught up in their own silly little battles on here. That the reason why we was brought together was we all have one interest. Our family trees. Not only do I love about family history and listening to others about their finds. I also love local history.

I avoid confrontation in everyday life, and so avoid it on the boards too. I agree with the opinion that if you do not like a thread or person on here for whatever reason then ignore.

I too find that some days there are few threads I wish to post on, so if this happens, I use the time to work on my tree and come back to the boards when there is something of interest to me.

My dad is 93, and still telling me what to do lol

used to be a good laugh on here,
ive been here few years had a break this year, from feb till lastmonth, even the owners of site made changes that havent always gone down well,
my gripe at the moment is if i reregistered straight away when i ran out id have got a years registration, but cos i had health probs and a new arrrival (grandaughter) which kept me busy with a full house, i only got half a years registration now for same price , not even warned first,

however site 2 year ago had loads of other people who no longer post, so its a lot missing
people are afraid of saying wrong thing

think i can top that girls, my father was born in 1909, and i agree with a lot of your comments, sometimes it is hard to find a thread that i actually want to post on, i don't mind funny as mo well knows, but many of them now are just too silly for me

Good morning Kitty Ann and Mo.....

The boards to me have always pretty much the same apart from the change of layout and as you can tell by some of the threads that day some people who don't like change.

Your will always find that are some more popular members for what ever reason and some that resent it for what ever reason.

I remeber there used to be a member who clearly didn't like people's threads , posts and used to post threads that I found (in my opinion) quite nasty and he used to get 100's of replies. Now I stayed away from him but others thought it was ok to do this as it was open on the boards, but it wasn't for me. I just wanna have fun...

Carol...........I did report them, but the memory doesn't go as quickly as the e-mail reporting them.........hence the hesitation to try again, but I will.

I think you're right, Carol - the boards have changed and have become something different. But you can't blame those of us who enjoyed it more how it used to be in the first 2 or 3 years for reminiscing a bit - especially on a thread where we've been asked what it used to be like.

And the bigger the number, the more I say that too! lol
