I'm confused............how can you put a body five weeks old into the boot of a car and not have it make a mess??
The bodily fliuds of a deceasd would have been running from everywhere ............. Sorry I know that is an awful thought but so true!

Surely it would have smelt, left a lot of mess etc............. It wouldn't have been an easy thing to clean up.........

How could they have kept her hidden and then moved her when the media glare from all over the world is on them

St Alive I think you will find you are innocent until proven guilty - acquittal will mean innocence but that by no means people are - just in the eyes of law and that is what counts.

What my opinion on their innocence or guilt is irrelevant but I am entitled to my opinion. Slander I think not.

I work in the law and respect it – and litigation is one of the two core areas I work in - but that does not mean the guilty do not go free.

Had that been a family in a council estate - I can assure for leaving these kids alone the others WOULD have been removed to a place of safe keeping as soon as they returned to England.

i'm very confused with this case-
part of me wants to believe that these parents one or the other had nothing to do with their daughters abduction, they look so loving towards their twins, but another part of me is confused by the portuguese authorities coming out and saying they have daming evidence-why can the authorities talk about it but the family can't???

'Police Match Madeleine DNA To Hire Car'
Updated: 20:20, Monday September 10, 2007

Portuguese police say they have found firm DNA evidence that the body of Madeleine McCann was in the boot of the family's hire car five weeks after she went missing, sources have told Sky News.

Sky crime correspondent Martin Brunt, speaking from Portimao, said police were "adamant" they had found the most "damning" evidence yet implicating either one or both of the McCanns in their daughter's death.

The evidence came in blood samples returned from the Forensic Science Service in Birmingham.

"Police say it is the most damning evidence that has been returned by the tests," Brunt said.

"It shows, as far as they are concerned, the presence of Madeleine's body in the car five weeks after she disappeared."

He continued: "The evidence suggests very strongly that it was not that her DNA that had been transferred from clothing or from a cuddly toy.

"The allegation is that the DNA shows a full match of 99%. According to police, it shows the presence of Madeleine's body in the boot of the family's hire car five weeks after she disappeared."

He said the sample of blood sent to the Forensic Science Service in Birmingham carried three matches of Madeleine's DNA.

Two were partial matches that came from the car and the windowsill of the family's holiday apartment.

The third was the full match from the boot of the car.

Meanwhile, papers outlining any evidence against Gerry and Kate McCann will be passed to the Public Prosecutor in Portugal, probably on Tuesday.

With the couple back in their home in Rothley, Leicestershire, the prosecutor will consider whether to lay any charges.

He will be considering the circumstances surrounding Madeleine's disappearance on May 3, Portuguese police spokesman Olegario Sousa added.

Brunt said the prosecutor had a number of options and may call for more evidence or advise on the investigation.

Family spokesman Brian Kennedy, who is Madeleine's great uncle, said of the family: "They are holding up extremely well."

The Portimao-based prosecutor, Jose Cunha de Magalhaes e Meneses, will look at the DNA evidence as well as the statements given by the McCanns to see if there is a case against the couple.

Chief Inspector Sousa said Portuguese police decided to pass the file on to the prosecutor despite not having all the results from forensic tests being carried out in Birmingham.

The samples were taken from the McCanns' holiday apartment and hire car.

The McCanns have been told they could be called back to Portugal "at any time".

Under Portuguese law the couple could keep their arguido - suspect - status for up to eight months, although the prosecutor could decide to extend that to a year.

Portuguese detectives appear to be working on the theory that Mrs McCann killed her daughter by accident and covered up the death by claiming she was abducted.

According to reports in Portugal, police are to make new searches as part of the investigation.

I think the Portuguese are clutching at straws--this stuff is all bad publicity for them and their tourist industry-really poor show!!
The McCanns have been "haunted" by the media every second of the day how could they possibly have done something without being seen? it's ludicrous-the authorities there are quite pathetic!!
I really feel sorry for that poor family. Poor Mrs Needham went throught he same when little Ben went missing, I bet this is all opening up new wounds for her as well........I personally think the way the Portuguese authorities have treated them shamelessly

I have to say that the question of this DNA is confusing and certainly makes you think, but if i'd murdered someone then shook hands with you i could transfer the victims DNA to you, therefore putting you in the frame.
It is that sensitive!!!!

Should we judge, or wait until the whole thing unfolds?????
I agree they should be reprimanded for neglect, as they did leave 3 youngsters alone.
As for the crime i'd like to think they were innocent.

I find it hard to make up my mind on this one.

I am still waiting for full explanation, from what I understand the DNA in the apartment was from a live person, the DNA in the boot was from a deceased person.

I was thinking that Angel, as the hired the car 25 days after she disappeared, could it be likely that they had her clothes in the boot, along with their own and the twins?

I'm keepng and open mind on htis one, unless I actually hear it from a reliable source.

Am I missing something - I can see partial match in Car 3 matching strains and a full match in the apartment?

I don’t think the apartment would count, as she had been there two weeks.

I am playing devils advocate here - I don’t trust the McCann’s further than I can throw them - they should have been arrested for neglect as soon as they reached England - but on the point of being guilty of her disappearance we will need strong evidence or they will be acquitted.
