I am what is termed as a 'foundling', which basically means that I was abandoned. I do not have a name for my birth mother and have to rely on leaving random messsages on appropriate sites on the off chance of her or someones who knew of her situation, viewing them. I have gone through all the various agencies such as NORCAP, but by law she is not allowed to look for me. Most the sites likes ancestory.com who have a section are flooded with U.S residents. As Friendsreunited and now this site seem to be prominent in the U.K it would be great for a section that is easy to access and clearly divided up into relevant sections, e.g. Foundlings, Birth mothers, Adoptees, Birth Fathers etc. But it has to be clear, like others have pointed out, it is time consuming to wade through time indexed entries - maybe a choice of viewing entries, as in my cas A - Z would be no good as I don't have a name for her and she wouldn't know my name. We would have to go by my date of birth. It would be nice to hear from others in my position - especially from bith mothers out there who are searching for their children or who have found their children. I have done my adopted family tree as I owe alot to them but still scroll down the names wondering if one of them is anything to do with me. |
