Hi all just got lost in the wonderful world internet genealogy websites again and I'm so niffed off that we have got to pay to find out information about our own families it is soooooo annoying! All I want to find out is who my gt grandads parent were I think I've found him on the Yorkshire BMD but its still gonna cost me 7 quid to get to the information I want, is there no other way I can find out this information for free? A very angry Alaina |

The answer to your question is Yes. Why do you expect everything for free? It costs money to provide, services, run web sites, gather databases etc. You can save money if you visit places that hold original documentation, microfiche etc. But if you do not want to leave your house then some services you have to pay for. Remember that you cannot place reliance on online information, there are always transcription errors. A certificate is a reliable document and for your £7 you are paying for someone to search, transcribe/copy and send it to you. You are paying them to take care of your request and give you an accurate answer. Nothing in life is free. Gary |

Alaina I agree with you it is annoying having to pay for it. Gary Its ok saying they have to pay all their running costs and all that, but why are there a lot of free sites then I have found a lot of information from these. so why do we have to pay for others? I dont mind paying for the certificates. Debbie |

I also don't mind paying for certs, what bugs me is the astronomical price some sites charge, when as you say ,others are free,or like GC,just charge a nominal fee, which im sure you'll all agree is well worth a fiver a year! |
