I have a marriage certificate (1846) which states that at the time of marriage both parties were resident at..........what looks like DERSCOMBE WELLS or DEWCOMBE WELLS, in the county of Devon. I have looked in Genuki and did a general search but with no luck. Can anyone shed some light on this name please? |

Tina and Colin many thanks for looking for me, the name is definitely Dewcombe Wells or Derscombe Wells. If it is of any help the marriage took place in Countisbury in Devon. Trish |

Hi Colin, not being too good on geography myself I've asked my husband and he says yes it is - does that help? Have decided to open a bottle of wine - it might make looking for this place easier! |

FOUND IT! Went to old-maps site and accidentally mis-typed the name - turned out to be Ducombe Wells. And yes, it is in Countisbury - left and up a teeny bit of Wilsham. Not on modern maps though. Told you the wine might help! Thanks a bundle for looking for me - not my fault the vicar couldn't spell. lol. Trish |

Colin, just read your reply - I know, I should read before I write! You could have saved me a few minutes of eye strain there. Thanks again, that's the place - in fact we were walking in that area a couple of weeks ago but only received the cert this week. Trish |

Yes, we spent a week there doing the walks and the one that would have led us to Ducombe Wells was the one that started in Lynmouth and went right up through Myrtleberry Woods and down to Watersmeet. Gorgeous views and a good muscle finder!! lol. |

Colin, am also on Members board talking to Tina. Didn't see the castle. We were actually staying in Lynton and walked down to Lynmouth for the start of this walk but couldn't do anything else BUT take the cable car back up. Just going back to Tina for a minute. |
