Hello Catherine. What a very good idea of your's to run this thread. I sing in our church choir, and the sight of the cubs, brownies etc bringing their flags up at today's service made a lump in the throat which played havoc with the singing. Well done. Keith |

I found it very moving today seeing the soldiers having a service at the memorial in Basra to the WW1 dead. My father was wounded in that area in January 1916 - there but for the grace of God........ Elisabeth |

MY HERO - 1st Cousin Twice Removed Peter Noel Hodgson RAFVR Air Bomber P/O 134076, served with RAF 207 Squadron and killed on 6/7th January 1944 in Stettin (now called Szeczin) Area of Poland (Germany prior to 1945) flying in Lancaster mkI ED586 EM-F. The plane crashed near to the target zone and all were killed. Trying to find his fiancee Dianne Stewart if she is still alive. |

Private Peter McGarrachie/McGarrichie, 18th Field Bakery, Army Service Corps. Died in Egypt 24/03/17 aged 26 My great-grandfather's cousin. I only traced him a couple of months ago. Also IMO my great uncles Andrew Muir Thomson & Dunbar Dyson Beck Thomson who both served in WW1, and suffered injuries in battle. K. |

Catherine, well done on dtarting this thread, very moving, and may it not be forgotten. Just to let you know that my father looked after the war graves in Normandy up till 1960. As a small lad born in Normandy I helped him up till we left Normandy. I go back to France at least 3 times a year, and always go round the cemetries, which are still well looked after, and will always be cared for. Jean-Jacques |

For Stanley George Heather died Mon 14th Feb 1916 aged 26yrs in Ypres Belgium.His name is inscribed at the Menin Road South Military Cemetery,Menin Gate,on the road connecting Ypres to Menen.His son was born in Aug the same year.And my maiden name is MENIN. Jude |
