Tina, So pleased you are all safe and can start recovering. Don't be surprised if it takes a few weeks to feel really OK. The same thing happened to my daughter and her children a few years ago. They were in a private rented house and felt ill from moving in. The owner showed Caroline a certificate to say all the gas had been checked.!! When I think what could have happened to my lovely daughter and darling grandchilden I go cold !!! Have a Very Happy Christmas. |

Hi Tina Wow you are lucky that happened with my mums fire and it explained why we'd all been so sleepy when we got in form school/work its scary to think that your fire can do that and you don't know about it! I haven't got a gas fire just got central heating so I'm quite lucky Alaina |

If you have central heating and have the boiler in the house then the safest type is a "balanced flue" where it is sealed from the house. Air for combustion is drawn in from outside through a sealed pipe and the flue gases vented the same way. I also dislike the practice of putting a gas oven on to warm the kitchen because that uses up the oxygen in the room. And at this time of the year particularly, check that any airbricks haven't been covered by decorations or presents! |

Tina So pleased you're all ok. Good job you've got a persistant ghost! Daphne Glad your daughter and grandaughter are ok. We do refurbishments for landlords and offer gas safety certificates as part of the deal. We discovered a gas fitter that was working for us was issuing certificates with out actually checking the appliances. Fortunately, my partner had the foresight to go round after him checking. Needless to say he didn't get anymore work from us and I am pleased to say he is currently unemployed. I can't understand landlords that don't check the work they've had done. It wouldn't take five minutes of their precious time. There's too many people out there who want to make money for doing nothing. Jeanette |
