Just wondering - do you still have that Nativity Scene outside the main church in Wycombe? Used to love that as a kid. |

Hi Susie, if you include a throat that feels like it has hot barbed wire shoved down it - then yes!! By the way if you want a fantastic cure for a sore throat then drink some hot sweetened milk that has a teaspoonful of butter added to it. It really does soothe the throat and tastes quite nice too. |

Well Sheila, the last time i was on the rye was to go to the wycombe show ,i never missed going as i was facsinated with all the farm machinery the animals the home made food stalls, and the like, and the last one i went to was 1958 so perhaps Susie could tell us about the boats, and if they are still there.perhaps someone could tell me if the old shellfish market is still at the end of the highstreet too ,the one opposite the old market .I spent many an hour there with my pin and half a pint of winkles[oh ,happy days]Fred ptfg. |

Fred, It's all changed since I lived there. Especailly the Spring Gardens area. When I went to school there the factories Gommes and Ercols were in full production. The little shops were all open and now it all seems to have gone. Shortly after I left they put that horrendus roundabout system in at the bottom of Marlow Hill...mind you thinking back to my childhood there were hardly any cars about and we were free to roam on our bikes all over the place. We used to go over the Rye and hire a boat for a couple of hours...I wonder if you can still do that now. Sheila |

From what i can remember Shiela ,the station sat on the junction of Castle Street and Amersham hill, and the cross roads at the bottom of the hill was The oxford Road ,and London road ,but like you ,the road past the police station going toward Marlow hill eludes me,as you say, age. The last time i was down the only road that i could remember was the Oxford ,and West Wycombe road, loakes park had long gone and the rest of it was all one way ,a ruddy nightmare,i even had trouble finding the graveyard ,and still after many visits havn,t found my granddads grave ,after paying respects to my dad.Fred,ptfg. |

Susie Im not sure what it was called I just remember they sold the Paul doll who I desperately wanted for my Sindy doll..ohhh a long time ago because they stopped making him in the late 60's lol Trish, yes thats why I remember the fire because I was still there then and not far off leaving school (prison) then. I remember when they opened the new Wollies and they had that photo machine which me and all my school mates used to cram into. I still have some of those pictures too (ooooh the shame!) Sheila |

Hi Sheila, I'd not long got married so the fire would have been about eeerrr , let me think a sec, eldest was born 76 soooo the fire was either 75 or 76. Crikey thay was years ago!!!! Not sure about the toy shop but I remember Murrays well - used to work opposite at Bellmans (the wool shop). And Bowdrey Lane was in that area somewhere. |

I have a faint memory of the fire Trish. Do you know what year that was? I went to Priory Road School (for a while before Spring Gardens) what a big old school that was..to a 6 year old it looked like a haunted castle and the Head Master boy was he scary! That toy shop I remember was near where the outside entrance to Murrays was and I seem to remember one on the corner near the Police Station (down the hill from the Train Station...sorry cant remember many street names these days)(must be my age) Sheila |

Hi everybody, Sheila, yes I remember the wooden floors of Woolies, not the gas lamps though lol. My best memories of it were walking around and peering over the tops of the counters and seeing all the lovely different things while my mum was holding onto my hand in case I got lost (not much has changed there - I still get lost at the drop of a hat LOL).I was living on Priory Road when Woolies caught on fire - I was woken up in the early hours by a strange noise (which turned out to be the crackling of the flames). |
