I agree Gaynor Growing up in Wycombe (born 1961) I have wonderful memories of all the freedom and fun. It's a shame the kids of today have to miss out on it all, what with the differences these days. Great memories are flooding back. Sheila

Len, Just to make sure you catch this one (cos I know you're a regular on this thread) I ADORED your Old Timers thread. Called Rob in to read it - amongst the giggles and guffaws of laughter - I heard him say "That's my childhood" - he says great man - and thanks you too. He was born 1948. Love and hugs Gaynor xxx

Sheila The old market disappeared years ago and the site was developed into shops fronting into the Octagon. The bus station remains as gloomy as ever and the cafe and kiosk have closed. The market is now centred on the High Street which is a pedestrian precinct. The whole area (they call it the Western Sector) is about to be redeveloped again. The thing that seems most odd is that the big car parks seem set to disappear. Reminds me of when Mary and I decided to have a new kitchen. We got various estimates. The only firm who wanted us to pay upfront, MFI, measured up and submitted a detailed plan - with no kitchen sink. Len

Morning all, it's cold and pouring with rain here. Spoke to my youngest last night and she's not happy where she's having to live at the moment (don't think she gets on too well with the couple whose house it is). So hoping she'll have a word with the nurse and get transferred down here with a local nurse. Now she finds that the pram someone gave her isn't exactly safe so it looks like I'll be forking out again LOL.

Im amazed that bus station is still there Len. I remember years ago thinking it was a dump then. Is it sill the one right up at the back near the open market bit? (if that's still there)

Sheila The Octagon is not nearly as bad as it used to be. Once I ran a campaign to have the architects chained up in the centre of it as a warning to other architects. The adjoining bus station is truly awful. Poor ventilation and stationary buses always have their engines running and people sit there for ages, waiting for their bus. I wonder what the mortality rate is? Len

Off to town on Saturday with hubby - don't need anything - just want to sit and have a coffee and watch the rest of the world panic, LOL. Usually do this on Christmas Eve but can't this year because I'm working. Still got to visit Alan's aunt in the nursing home - she's senile and stone deaf - but always knows what a Christmas present looks like. :-))

Susie My Cousin helps run the Octigan (if it's still called that) Shopping Centre. She works in the office there and is often found running round organising things so Im not allowed to say anything bad about shopping in Wycombe....except I never go there. Brighton is horrible in the main town this time of year so Ive stayed away doing it all in places like Asda and Argos which are outside the area, where I live. Thats the only reason why I finished last week Sheila

Hi Gaynor Lovely to have you back on the boards (makes you sound like a tap-dancer) Len Ps. My cure for a cold is a stiff rum and blackcurrant. It doesn't often happen that I get respiratory infections though as I keep my alchohol levels up and germs can't abide alcholol.
