Itseems that the Felton name is unique only 2 on site 1 on mine

There are 10 Richold's listed 3 of which are in my tree.

My unique names are DE VERDIS and NUMENN. I thought I had a great-grandfather with the very common name of CHARLES NEWMAN, but discovered last week that he had changed it from CARLES NUMENN (father JOHANN). Sounds Germanic? Yours a bit confused Helen

Hey. My last name is Ormston and it's pretty unique in West Midlands. There are much more up north, but I haven't seen many of these ormstons. Has anyone seen an Ormston? I'd love to know.

I agree with Janet. I contacted the resident genealogist of the Albany Museum and he confirmed that there were no HACKART'S in the first half of the 19th Century. Somewhere along the line there has been a name or nationality change. I always thought that the name was Dutch but the family disagree. As far as the WILKE'S are concerned I have back tracked five generations and so far it would appear that there is no Scottish connection at all. Lindy

The problem I can see with having unusual surnames is that the opportunity for misspellings and imaginative transcriptions increases with the rarity of the name! My problem name is Frasi, which, understandably has been recorded as Frazi, and transcribed as Frase (the 'open' 'i' looks very much like an 'e'.) But, the F can look like a T, an I and even an S. The 'a', if it has an 'open' top looks like a 'u', so there is quite a combination of options. My grandfather's name was Henry Alfred Garibaldi Bradshaw Frasi, and I couldn't understand why I could find no trace of him. I tried all sorts of combinations and I eventually found him transcribed as 'Henry Alfred Gardaldi Bradshaw Truse'!!

The only Unique surname I can see on this board is Rumplestiltskin

I've have two quite unique surnames in my tree. First one is Michelin, which is shared by me and one other person on Genesconnected and then I also have Littlejohns, there are 93 Littlejohns in total on the GC, 15 of which are mine. But then I also have the not so unique names in my tree, such as Clarke, Anderson and Taylor. Wouldn't it be great to have ALL unique names, would definately be an easier job finder ancestors wouldn't you agree??

I have the unique surname of Elligett. There are 4 on Gc all in my tree. Thay came from Ierland but i can't find any trace of them. Some times spelt with only 1 T. Diane x

Good thread! There is only 1 Bi'Vand, 1 Chivens, 1 Floggett and 1 Hagyn - trouble is that they're recorded more than once as some are recorded in my mum's tree and my mum's cousin's tree! Between us, we also have a couple of Ovenell (7 on the site), about 10 of Pingram (23 on site), a couple of Seagoe (27), and about 25 Kenniford (36). I also have 1 of 8 Lore, 2 of 32 Lampon and 1 of 37 Hipgrave. Unfortunately, I only have 27 of 13,109 Phillips!! I also have 7 other names which have in excess of 10000 names - groan! The good news - no Smith and no Jones - at least not yet! :-) Regards Simon in Munich

I have "de Notkin". My great grandfather Sebastion[also know as Charles William] de Notkin was from Vilna in Lithuania and My grandmother was a Siney. Her name was Joyce Metas Siney and she married my grandfather Charles William Denotkin.She died in Dunfermilne in 1919 aged 25 from the influenza. No idea who her parents were or where she came from only that my grandparents wer married in Rochester, Kent, England Hazel Wiley, Waipukurau, New Zealand

I have the only Mcdakin in my tree. In fact so in my research I seem to have the only Mcdakins ever! Well it feels like that. They are Samuel Gordon Mcdakin, his son same name and daughter Henrietta Llewellyn Mcdakin. Kim
