Hello to (Wendy in Hampshire's) MUM. Time to get a compooter and start pressing some buttons. don't understand them? Not many of us do, especially when we first start. I scared me silly, I felt there was a little man inside who knew every time I made a silly mistake. Honest...I joke not. But the more you press the buttons, the more you understand what they do, and its FUN and FRIENDLY and also FRUSTRATING at times but I wouldn't be without mine now. So come on Wendy's Mum, be bold, be brave and see what your daughter gets up to............ Big encouraging hug from Norah |

Didn't know how to turn mine on when we got it! Can't live without it now. Do all my shopping paying bills, banking etc. Can't get out on my own so it saves hubby and kids doing it and brilliant for this! There is a site to learn for free on line http://www(.)vision2learn(.)co(.)uk take out the brackets |

Hi Wendy, how about you starting a new topic "WENDY IN HAMPSHIRE'S MUM - SHOULD SHE GET A COMPOOTER?" Then you should get an unbiased opinion from us all. Just a thought! Best Wishes Norah |

Wendy, My Mum's got a 'pooter - she was terrified of it at first. She still gets my nephew to help her with the difficult stuff, but has a very important file marked "private" in which she keeps her < < < < < < < < < < < < golf scores!!!!!! |

I was totally confused when I first sat down to learn Windows and the internet. DOS I understood from years ago, but this was a foreign country to me. I kept getting to places I didn't know how to get out of, said sorry to the screen when I made a mistake, nearly died of fright when an error message popped up, specially if it told me the program had done something illegal & was going to be shut down, and I'm sure my grandson was starting to think,"poor old soul, she's past it!", after I called for help so many times. Now I can't believe I was so helpless, as all the help I need is, most of the time right in front of me, but I still have this picture in my head of someone at the other end when I enter a website saying "What, her again? What does she want now? Oh well, give her a cookie, and let her in! And look at her, she's still in her dressing gown!!" By the way, I'm 73, almost. Di. |

Wendy - still waiting uh? - I haven't forgotten just hhhmm taking inspiration from my fellow chaps, I will return to "that" subject...in due course - I find strangely, as I am a computer person...for a living (who said, he must work in PC World?) I actually have no interest in them..family members always ask advice when buying one...but I try to discourage them...soooo boring!!!! ..one thing I do know..as regards computer's (Wendy) IF you have Spag Bol poured over your head and it get's into the keyboard ..REPLACE the keyboard far to messy trying to clean it out..as for garlic bread removal...er computers are useless!!!! :o) |

Right then Wendy, we've got a new title. Did you have to tell your Mum that I'm 97!!!! Smack Bott for you my girl!!! Andrew - what do you do with your tongue - mine is for licking spag.bol out of keyboards. rofalolh. Now come on all of you, is it worth while for Wendy's mum to get a compooter. And if you think not, please say so because we want a really unbiased opinion. |

Norah - Ah yes, waste not, want not!!! :o) (and far more economical)- Hopefully this situation would not occur for Wendy's mum IF Wendy ever get's her one!!! - Can I vote again??? update: Wendy - maybe a little laptop - rather a massive box and huge screen!! - I know that is physical looks but it may make it less intimidating...just a thought! - a little ibook less technical with a Mac o/s and very small....and your good advice! |

Me again, Yes Wendy's mum should definitely get a computer. I fought against it for ages, but I'm so glad I finally caved in. For all of my hobbies, ie gardening and dressmaking, I can now get all the good tips I need, from the computer. I've met lots of interesting people from around the world whom I now consider friends. I'd never have been able to trace my family tree from here, Canada, without it. And Wendy's mum will be able to enjoy her jokes thread as much as we all do! Come on, Wendy's mum, go for it! Di. |

My mum bought her first computer when she was in her early 70's. SHE'S the one who talked ME into buying one!!! My mum can converse in English, French, German and knows phrases in a few other languages; however, she is NOT good with machinery. If my mum can learn how to turn on a computer and teach herself how to operate it, ANYONE can!!! PS She's on a very limited income, so this is her way of keeping in touch with her family and friends in Canada, Hawaii, Massachusetts and England. |

Yes!! My Mum's in her 70's and she has a lap top. When she gets stuck she asks us what to do and writes our answers down word for word in her notebook so that when she gets stuck again she knows what to do!!!!! If Wendy's Mum likes to chat am sure it would open up a whole new world to her!! |
