Dear Linda Heartily agree with you - the Southern Cross in Newton Poppleford makes the dreamiest lightest scones for cream teas ever. We make huge detours whenever we're in the Devon or Cornwall area to make sure we finish our holiday there! (Favourite haunt for Sidmouth Folk Festival attendees as well - anyone been to that?) after sampling many devon cream teas at Tordown Farm in WEst Buckland, N. Devon, it's definitely cream first, spread thickly with a dollop of jam on the top, worth a visit to the above, a 15th century farmhouse, not changed from then and a very warm welcome, oh my taste buds are tingling at the thougt of eating one right now!
