Hi Nigel I'm hoping your going to be able to help me with your local knowledge as I think I'm getting somwhere pre 1837 but just want to make sure. I have found an entry on IGI for my ggg Grandad Benjamin Timms (I think its him anyway) who was christened at Barford St John Church, Oxford. I have found my Benjamin Timms on the 1871 census, and I know that he was born circa 1824 and was born in Banbury, Oxfordshire. So before I start shouting "I've found him!" I want confirmation that this church is the one I'm looking for. Is Barford the name of the village or is Banbury the name of the village? as I've found a church called Barford St John which is in Banbury, Oxfordshire on the net but I dont know if this is the one where the christening was does. Help! Update - Just spoken to the vicar of Barford St John Church, and hes going to look through the parish records for me to see if he can find any info, as they still have the baptism records there that date back this far. The brick wall may finally be coming down :-D |
