My Dad uses windmills to deter moles, the sort kids have at the seaside. I think the sticks vibrate in the ground and scare the moles away. At least they look pretty.

What about cats? How can I stop them from digging up my bedding plants(when summer eventually arrives,!!) and poohing on stuff?

Hi Norah, & Doreen, On a more seious note, lol, I just entered gardening tips uk into the search bar, and these 2 web sites sound really useful. www.carryongardening(.)org(.)uk (sounds like a good name for a movie!!, featuring fun in the potting shed with Kenneth Williams and company!!), and www.debbysgardenlinks(.)co(.)uk. Should be lots of good tips about any gardening or small furry creature problems on those sites. Love, Di.xxx

Hi Wendy Have you started collecting bottles for your mum yet? Another thing she could do is to write to the gardening programme on BBC Radio Solent - they are very knowledgeable and they broadcast every Saturday morning. Hugs Norah

Bob I don't think Jasper Carrot was successful with his shotgun, was he? If I remember rightly, this was mainly due to his sitting on a revolving chair while discharging the gun! This, of course, was then followed by the sound of, "Wotyer doin' Carrot?" A brilliant sketch ............. !! I'm laughing just thinking of it ......!!

Hi Bill, What's wrong with rat's you say? They live under my garden shed/greenhouse and in the winter they chewed nasty little holes in the corners and ate all my grass seed , the tops off my overwintering geraniums, and everything else that was edible, plus non edibles like my shelves. They're smelly and they make me very nervous, because I'm expecting them to fall through the roof onto my head all the time, or leap at me as I go thro' the door. Apart from that I'm sure maybe if I got to know them I might learn to love them, perhaps....or perhaps not!! Squirrels go all over my garden burying nuts and I have to pull out numerous developing hazel and walnut trees every spring. Racoons lie in wait and attack my cats, and herons land in my pond and eat my fish. It's like "wild kingdom" outside!! I love it, Di.

Getting back closer to the Question. Moles (Skin type) are not so bad, its the little warts that grow in awkward places, like in the corner of your eyes, or in your ear. New treatment called Wartex in the chemist is supposed to work. must have a look see. As for Moles, The Mayo clinic says:"Most of us have from 10 to 40 moles". "It's especially important to become familiar with the moles on your skin because, in rare cases, they can become cancerous ".

What may I ask is wrong with Rats? ( "as I hum the music Ben"). Think of an animal that spreads diseases more than rats, yes humans of course. and then rats spread diseases caused by humans. Rats clean up the toxic garbage spread by Humans. I say leave the rats alone. Get rid of Shotgun toting humans and poisons.

Hello Doreen - Try burying empty bottles up to their necks in the garden - moles are said to dislike the sound of the wind as it blows across the empty tops. If your moles like that sound (as I'm sure some do) treat the runs with a harmless chemical called ammonium sulphate, which might also deter troublesome cats (as if cats could be troublesome in a garden!!! You'd probably get that from a garden centre. Big Hug Norah in Hampshirexx
