Hi Brian; You're right about the distance perspective. Canadians think nothing of spending the day driving to get somewhere. We often drive to Vancouver (near Di in Tsawwassen) for a three day weekend. That is about an 11+ hour trip through the Rocky mountains!. A few years ago my hubby and I drove to San Diego -33 hours. I will be heading to Salt Lake this summer to do some research, it is straight south of me about a 10 hour drive.

Hi Teresa I know just how you feel, all that hard work has really paid off. I am hoping that I may have found a distant relative in Canada. Hope you enjoy the meeting. Sue

Just amused at the "only 470 miles away" bit. Just shows how one's perceptions are shaped by local environment. In London "local" is only a mile or so. Someone on the other side of the city, say ten miles away, may as well be on a different planet. Where I live "local" is about a 15 to 20 mile radius. In Canada it's obviously about 500 miles, or the length of the British Isles. In Oz probably 1,000 miles.

I am so excited I can hardly stand it. Someone just found a message I posted on Rootsweb over a year ago and emailed me to say she was related to me. She has sent me a TON of information on my gggrandmothers family. My grandmother was very secretive about her family claiming that she lost touch with them. My mum and her siblings never had any contact with or even knew about cousins, aunts or uncles. From the same rootsweb message i found a cousin in Australia last year and now this one. What also makes this news so amazing is that my new found relative lives only 470 miles from me in the next province. We thought we were the first family members to venture across the water to Canada. She has already suggested that we get together later in the year. ....Those of you waiting for me to do VRI lookups, I apologise for the delay. I will do them--just a little preoccupied at the moment. Yippee!!
