I've uploaded my GEDCOM file (created using the LDS PAF application). I'm confused as to why it has duplicates of some of the family names, when you click on a name (eg. Ward) in the List of names on the Home page. I initially thought that they were simply ancestors with the same first name, but this is not always the case. Also, some of the repeating names have extra information (like DOB). Has anyone else had this occur? My TriablPages address is.... http://www(.)tribalpages(.)com/tribes/jrward Cheers. Jason. |

Just a thought Jason ....... you could check your PAF file tree for problems. Open your file, click on 'File' and then on 'Print Reports'. In the new window click on the 'Lists' tab. Click against 'Duplicate individuals' and on the right click on 'Preview'. You'll then get a list of any duplicated individuals in your tree. Another check is to click against 'Possible Problems' and then on 'Preview' and you'll get a list of ..... possible problems in your tree! It's surprising how easy it is to make mistakes and not realise it! I've just found that I have one individual who has been duplicated on mine, and I didn't know! Hope this helps. Janet |

Janet, the PAF Duplicate's Report is superb! Thanks for pointing that out. Theres so much you can do on PAF! I'm sure the duplicates have come about when I've added extra info on these people, its sort of made a copy of the original data and produced the same person with the new data (if you see what I mean). Can't think how else they got in. Now just need a way to zap the duplicates (the one with the least info). Cheers Janet! |

Jason Click on 'Tools' at the top and you'll find a 'Match and Merge' option. This will produce the duplicates side by side so you can check them out and merge them. Janet |

Janet! You are a genius! The Merge thing seems to have done the trick! The only odd thing I'm seeing now is that some of the people have the 'Other Parents' button appearing, where it didn't used to! Jason. |

Jason Ooh! ........ never been called a genius before! Seriously ...... I'm not a genius - I'm just inquisitive, that's all! I just have to find out what all the buttons do, so I press them to find out! It's surprising what you can discover by doing that! Not sure about the 'other parent' button - I'd check that out if I were you. Could it be that you have connected them to the wrong parent? Or to the same parent twice? Janet |

When you click the 'Other Parents' button it displays the parents twice, with 2 MRIN numbers. Quite confusing. Thanks very much for your help Janet! This duplicates thing has been bugging me for ages. I've just loaded the new GEDCOM file up to TribalPages. Will look tomorrow to see if its not seeing double this time! Jason. |

It sounds to me, Jason, as though you still have some duplicates there - probably the parents, particularly as you have two separate RIN numbers against the same name. You could check your list of names by clicking the 'binoculars' at the top, checking the 'sort by alphabetical' option. The two names should come up together with both the RIN numbers. If you open these individually, you should be able to see the problem? It's worth a look. You could also try some of the other 'list' options, such as 'unlinked individuals'. This could possibly show up the duplicated parents who may be linked to children but not to the tree as a whole. Good Luck! Janet |
