Hi Linda, Where did your mother order her birth certficate from i have ordered a couple from Soutport that look like they have been scanned and after the last column on the right hand side it says adopted and the name of the register, however, when i obtained a copy of one of the certificates from the local registers office there was no mention of the fact, These births were registered in the 1960's, also occasionally on 1837 when you do look up for a birth you will see a number next to the reference number of the original name, this shows that they were adopted if the 2 reference numbers apppear, not sure what year they did this from and it doesn,t alway appear but you could try it. With regards to the death records you could do this locally or if you have credits on 1837, you can put in the name without a specific area and it will find any deaths that match that name from 1984-2002, however there is no certain way to know unless you search every year from when he was born, and even then if he was adopted you wont find him as his name will have changed. You coould alway post some messages on the trying to find board, and on any of the adoption message boards. Hope this helps Sheila |

Have same problem as you Linda, Found I have a sister born 1938.Parents never spoke of this child. Found birth cert but no death cert. I was told to write to Dr Banardos home. The thing about adoption is,they can find you but you cannot find them. Seems wrong to me. What do you think? val |
