Well I had a look at that recipe book. I thought the idea of microwave cooking was that it was quick. All the recipes in the book take as long, if not longer than conventional cooking. Sorry Lynn. Jeanette |

Hi Rick, I'm not keen on him either, but he had a TV show last year doing all kinds of nutty things, and one of them was putting eggs in a microwave (with the shells on) and cooking them until they exploded. It just reminded me. :-) Kathy |

Hi Kathy, I don't quite get the Jeremy Clarkson reference as I can't stand to watch him - far too big-headed ! Is he stupid enough to blow his lunch up too ? Rick. |

Rick, I think you have been watching too much Jeremy Clarkson!! MICROWAVE BUTTER TABLET (tried and tested) 1-lb. White Granulated Sugar 2-oz Butter Small can of Evaporated Milk 1. In a very large Pyrex mixing bowl place the sugar, chopped up butter and can of evaporated milk. Do not mix. 2. Microwave on Full Power for 4 minutes, watching that it does not boil up and overflow. You may need to stop and beat if it rises too much up the bowl. 3. Beat thoroughly and allow the sugar to melt a little. 4. Set microwave for 8 minutes more on Full Power, watching it all the time and when it boils up to the top, remove and beat each time. 5. When ready the top should wrinkle when a wooden spoon is dragged across the surface and the mixture is darker and thicker. If not, microwave again until setting point is reached. 6. Pour the mixture into a 7" square tin lined with greaseproof paper and allow to spread to the edges. 7. Score the top into small squares and allow to set for several hours in a cool place. Especially for the sweet-toothed..... Kathy |

Take one egg and boil on the stove for slightly too short a time. Allow to cool for long enough to handle. Remove shell and realise egg is undercooked. Place egg on plate & microwave on lowest setting for 5 seconds. Next, pierce with fork to check egg is properly cooked. When your ears stop ringing from the noise of the explosion and you have stopped laughing, remove pieces of egg from eyes and wash face. Wipe down all surfaces and cupboards and wash floor. Spray air freshener liberally to remove very offensive odour. Remove eggy T-shirt and place in washing machine. Retrieve frightened cat from far corner of pantry. Make cheese sandwich. Rick. (and yes, I really did do it !) |

Lynn You must be psychic! Only last night my daughter showed me a book on microwave cooking that her teacher had let her borrow. There were some great recipes in there. I'll ask her if she's still got it when she comes in then I'll post some tasty recipes. Jeanette |

Here's an idea - bin the microwave and go down the chip shop instead. much nicer. We have a microwave and it's just a waste of valuable space, we only use it about once a week at most, generally just for cooking frozen peas lol |

As we seem to spend so much time on here...is there much time to do the cooking the conventional way. how about tried and tested microwave receipe's........................................ Syrup sponge Cooking time in microwave 4 mins Put a good 2-3 tablespoons of syrup into a basin thats ok for microwave use in another bowl cream together 2ozs margarine, 2ozs sugar, add 1 egg and beat in with fork then add 2ozs self raising flour mix in to form a fairly firmish mix but add a drop of milk if need be.Put mixture on top of syrup cover with cling film and microwave on full power for 4 mins turn out onto plate(mind as it is very hot) serves 2,serve with custard word of warning custard usually takes longer to make, so start this before making syrup sponge Lynn |
