Yesterday I was going through some old family photos (late 1800's) which my mother in law had passed on to me. I came across a very old photo and we were trying to decide who it was when my son Stuart's girlfriend looked at it and said she thought it was Stuart with a beard. We all had to agree. They were born at least 5 generations and 120 years apart but the resemblance was uncanny. If you have any old photos get them out and have a look. |

It can be rather spooky. The same thing happened to me over the weekend. I sent a picture of my gggrandmother to a descendant of her brother. The cousins mother sent me a photo of herself superimposed over the original and they were the spitting image of each other. My gggrandmother and her great grand niece!! born 100 years apart!!! |

I have a large photo portrait of my G grandmother in her 40's at the top of the stairs. Two years ago my daughter then 19 had a caricature of herself done in Paris. I put it in a frame and temporarily hung it along from GGranny. It was a good month later when I glanced at it and realised they were both looking the same way, and despite one being a caricature, the other a photo, they could almost have been the same person! - in fact G Granny looks more like my daughters mother than I do! |

Hi We have a family photo taken in about 1909 in which the little boy sitting on his mothers knee looks exactly like our grandson Ryan at a similar age The little boy in the photo was my husbands' father . I also have a photo of my self aged abot 2 and one of my daughter aged 2 and one of her daughter aged 2 and except for the style of clothes it could be the same child Now I'm getting past my sell by date I am going more and more like my grandmother Bren |

On the wall in front of my desk I have a photo of my paternal G Grandfather with his 4 sons (including my Grandfather) and his daughter taken in about 1909. I never met any of them as they lived in Canada and I live in England. My G Uncle Herbert is the image of my brother, which is really strange as we always thought he took after our maternal Grandfather. My younger son could be a twin of my Grandfather, and both my younger daughter and my brother's elder daughter look very like Great Aunt Ella who is aged about 10 in the photo. To look at my daughter and niece together you wouldn't think they are alike at all though. My brother thinks Great Aunt Ella looks like me as a child too. Strange how the 'genes will out'! Sue |

Geoff If your nose runs and your feet smell, it means you are upside down. Shirley |

I look like my G Grandmother although she was born in the 1860's and I was born in the 1970's. When I showed my brother the picture he thought it was me dressed in costume. I am the spitting image of my Mum and my brother of my Dad yet when people put us in a room together they immediately spot we're siblings. Neither of us can see the resemblance though! He has blue eyes I have brown, he's pale and freckly and I'm dark, he has gingery/blonde hair and I'm dark brown, he's 6'4" and I'm only 5'3"! Naomi |

A few people down the years reckon I bear a resemblance to my father but predictably I fail to see it at all! It probably won't be until I've got my bus pass that resemblances start to become clearer. My aunt is 14 years older than my father and it's only now that I can see clear similarities in features. Likewise, my aunt and father look very like my grandmother and grandfather in an old photo that we have. |

We have always said that I am a good mix of my Mum and Dad, my sister who's a year younger definitley takes after my Dads side, and that my youngest sister must look like the milkman as she doesn't resemble anybody. When my Great Aunt died we found an old sepia photo of her parents (our great Grandparents) and realised that my youngest sister was the spitting image of our great Grandfather - only he had a moustache! Mystery solved. Jeanette |

I've never been able to see a resemblance to either of my parents really, although I do have my fathers nose. My siblings and I all look different, but when you get us all together you can see we're related. The strongest resemblance though is my son, he's like a mini-me, except he's extremely cute lol |

I am afraid to say, but I look like my Mum and Gran. It is quite scary. |

I've been mistaken for Lord Parkinson. No relation (so far as I know, too late to ask mum). |

I always thought I was a mixture of both my mum's side and my dad's side. However, several years ago a newly found relative sent a picture of my great-grandmother (actually, I think it was gt-gt-grandmother) and I almost fell over when I pulled the photo out of the envelope. She could have been my older sister! She even had her head tilted slightly to the side, like I sometimes do. Really odd!!!! |

While in Herefordshire, we looked through a book about hop picking in some of the villages and were startled to see what could have been our daughter. We now have a copy and even her young son said it looked like Mummy with different clothes on. It was taken c. 1906 in the village where I've found ancestors since the 1700s. I wonder who she is, she must be related but we haven't been able to find out. |
