Clergy do move about the country. My great uncle was a vicar and then an Archdeacon in the diocese of Manchester 1920s-1960s. He had several parishes in that time. The church I go to has had quite a few ministers over the years. They average out at about nine years and they then move on to pastures new. |

Regarding their moving around in their jobs, I doubt that this was true for clergymen. I would imagine that it was a job for life. There would usually be nothing to be gained by moving to another parish. |

Yes I've seen the page. Michael [the site builder] had a gathering for the descendants of Edward Eyre Butterfield on a hot day at Mitcham Park about 15 years ago. I was not into geneaolgy then. For that line it is all his own work - sort of like someone doing the crossword for you. Yes he is a handy peroson to know if you get stuck. James Keep looking, the truth is out there..... |

One branch of my tree has an Admiral, William BUTTERFIELD RN b 1767 and a Reverend: Rev Thomas Nicholson b 1647. The nature of their work mean that they moved around in their jobs. How do I treat a Reverend and an Admiral given that their title will help identify themto other who are searching? James Birch, Adelaide, Australia. |
