Karin, I am in Norfolk as well now!! Dad worked in Apollo Coins, Grandad painted the coins that were on the sign outside the shop, we used to go and visit dad at work cause we knew that his boss Ron would give us the money to go across the road to the Hertford Grill and buy a huge ice cream. Mum said about the ghost in Bell hill, also about one thawt was well known in Enfield Town and also they said about the monument that is over the place where a lot of victims of the plague were buried. Think we were probably to busy causing havoc on our estate to know much about what was going on.

the house was council and they did do extensive research into it,sorry i cant recollect wether he was a past resident or member of the family,

Susanne

Susanne Report 11 Apr 2004 21:17

Do you know whether they found out if the gentleman that the poltergeist was supposed to be, was actually a past owner of the house? It would not have been so easy in the 70' for the family to have found out who the past residents were, there was no internet at the time and if the house was council there would be no deeds to the property.

kim Report 11 Apr 2004 21:15

susan, where have you been hhahah, this was going on in the 70s, it has been very quiet for many years now, think it was brought up again in to late 80s early 90s, but you also have legends of ghosts in bell lane, near albany school and i believe another over forty hall are all ment to be quite famous ones to, wher bouts did your dad work?

kim

kim Report 11 Apr 2004 21:12

i do believe there was a video made of it, possibly on strange unexplained also you may be able to find something on the bbc archives,

Susanne

Susanne Report 11 Apr 2004 21:10

I really wish that I had seen this BBC program, I cannot believe that this was going on just down the road and I knew nothing about it!! Dad worked in a shop just down Hertford road at the time and he can only remember something about 2 girls showing how it had all been a hoax, he did say that it was all very convincing.

Devon Dweller Report 11 Apr 2004 21:09

Yes, sorry ...it was the BBc who investigated the history of the house.

kim

kim Report 11 Apr 2004 21:04

yes susan i was and am in enfield.the poltergeist was ment to have been focused on janet the elder of the sisters, all those from outside could not have been involved in cover up but maybe the family did instigate few things that would make us all believe what we saw, the bbc and researchers all looked into the past of the house not just the people in it

Susanne

Susanne Report 11 Apr 2004 21:03

Sorry Shiela I am a bit slow here, Who looked into past residents, the family or BBC. Sue

Devon Dweller

Devon Dweller Report 11 Apr 2004 21:00

I remember it being on a BBC documentry years ago and apparently they looked into the past residents.

Susanne

Susanne Report 11 Apr 2004 20:50

Kim, were you in Enfield? If it was a hoax, I would guess that the whole family would have had to have been ib on it because I do not think it would have been likely that Janet would have gone through all the trouble of finding out who had previously lived in the house. I know that Poltergeist activity usually tends to be focused around teenagers for some reason. Sue

kim

kim Report 11 Apr 2004 20:36

from memoery there was at least 2 possibly 3 girls and one boy that lived in the house, all the activity supposedly came through janet, i say supoosedly cos only until recent years have they decided to dispute the case of wether there actually was anything in the house, i know myself of the occasion of a pillow being thrown in the roof, you could see it from the school the lollipop lady (hazel) also so quite a few incidents, yes they did get a good pay off for there stories but they certainly did look in appearance as tho they had been through some bad times

sue, superb detective work. The book says that the reporters did think at times that they thought the girls were contributing but when they looked at the evidence they were sure they could not be responsible for all of it, including the voices coming from the eldest. They apparently were told by a specialist that she could not have made the voice because her vocal cords were not able to cope with it for long periods or something like that. Who knows- i suppose i'm now going to have to read it all again.

Hi All, Finally got back, had to get oldest 2 kids in to babysit hubby and not easy trying to persuade teenagers to do anything you want!!! Anyway, the reason Green street rang a bell was because of the shops, my favorite toy shop Jennings was there (now a gun shop). Mum says she had never heard of that one but then proceded to go on about all the other Ghosts in Enfield. Dad says all he can remember is about 2 girls that had convinced everyone that there was a poltergeist but that they had later gone on to admit that it was a hoax, they had shown how they did it and apparently it was very convincing. Dad cannot remember whether it was the 2 girls that lived at that house or not. I did try to ring my nan who also lived in Enfield at that time but she was out, not too sure what her memory would be like, she is 81 and tends to have a bit of a funny memory. If I can find out any more I will let you know. Sue
