Sue, I am going out on a limb here but history says that when the old hall was demolished the ghost relocated to the NEARBY old rectory. That in my reckoning puts it near the church and it was the old rectory that strange goings on were seen and heard. To support this Syderstone comes from the Anglo-Saxon name of Sidsterne meaning 'large estate', so I wonder if the village originated on the grounds. Make any sense at all?

Must have been a ghost in GC's works :-) Andy, She was seen by a lot of the kids/teenagers wandering along the hedgline of the field behind the church and rectory, she used to walk towards the rectory. Strange, she always looked sad without seeing her clearly. I wondered if the old hall was originally on the field behind the church. Sue

Sue, She was said to have been sad towards the end because her marriage was virtually non existant-hubby was spending much of his time in the presence of the queen. Nobody can be sure whether she was murdered by him or threw herself down the stairs in desperation. Either way what a way to go! Andy

Andy, Been reading more about her. I was trying to find an old map of the area and the old map site wasn't working so did a search and came up with loads about her. The trouble is that no matter how much you read no one will ever stand a chance of finding out the truth. Also cannot understand how her ghost is supposed to be in 2 places, cause she is supposed to haunt her marital home as well!

Hi Karin, Wondered where you went! I am now in Fakenham, bit of a different pace of live from Enfield! My brother and I used to go every week to Edmonton swimming and then my GGrandparents moved there so killed two birds with one stoneso to speak. Cant believe Bellings has gone, nan and mum used to work along there somewhere but not sure where, I can remember nan saying something about making TV's so I think it was Fergesons. None of my lot can remember hearing anything about Janet, haven't asked nan yet though. I have managed to read up a lot on it now. When did you move away from Enfield? Sue

Andy, Latest on Amy, She lay in state at Gloucester (now Worcester) College and there are still tales of sightings of her ghost there. (that makes 3 places!). It is now suspected that she had breast cancer as the Spanish Ambassador, De Feria wrote to his master that Amy has a 'malady in one of her breasts'. Sir Ian Aird a distinguished surgeon said that breast cancer can so weaken the structure of the bones as to produce what would appear to be a spontaneous fracture. In particular, the action of walking downstairs could jar the spinal column to an extent that it might actually break. Ugh, what a way to go! Good here isn't it, History lesson and medical lesson in one go!! Sue

Susanne

Susanne Report 14 Apr 2004 20:50

Andy, I will have to check that one out a bit more. My very first thought was Smugglers due to it being near a river and also having underground passages. As I say will have to read more. http://www.borleyrectory(.)com/ Sue P.s. Dont tell my other half we are travelling round the country LOL!!!!

Andy(GC) Report 14 Apr 2004 21:00

No LOL, or mine. no seriously Borley does have the reputation of being the most haunted house in Britain-and yes, I've visited the site of that one too. Andy

By the way Andy, Thanks for the photo, scared the life out of me, never thought I would ever see posters of Starsky and Hutch again!!! ;-) I did actually manage to see a small bit of the footage that that came from on the net, took ages to load cause some poor soles only have dial up. Got to do some more reading on Borley, I had heard of it but not much detail. Do you know off-hand whether the tunnels were still in place after the new building was put up? Sue

hi there, I recently watched a doc on Sky and i seem to remember that they said it was energy from the teenager in the house. I seem to think that it was on one of the "UK" channels and according to my mum has been shown before...what a surprise for Sky. Think it is "most haunted" . So I would keep checking the listings if I were you

Yes i remember that case iv lived in enfield all my life there was no hard evidence, nothing caught on camera despite many witnesess, although i do believe in the paranormal i think this was just a big hoax, iv heard many stories over the years some from people who knew the two girls involved, and their opinion was the same as mine.
