Was down in Chichester on 16th April and had a meal out for sister-in-law's birthday. Great food and atmosphere (although noisy) at Smith and Western - Ribs and Steakhouse - at the old Chichester Station. Reasonably priced too. Any other recommendations? In general I favour Bella Pasta (now renamed to Bella Italia) - consistent all around the country for the quality of the food and prices.

I agree with myself tonight. Recently, my most favourite pub that served excellent food for about 20 years of visiting, changed hands and what a let down on Mother's Day - if I hadn't had a starter I would have asked for a take-away on the way home!!. The meal was rubbish, the service abyssmal (is that how you spell it?) and we will not be going there again. Bring back the old menu and the last chef and they will get back their customers. This pub is The Anchor at Oldbury, near Thornbury, Bristol. Excellent reputation ruined in 2 months by whoever took it over!!!!

I would like to say Chopsticks in Oxford on the Cowley Road is fab. Eat as much as you like for a reasonable price aswell

We also love Pizza Hut and have never been disappointed. We also like Little Chef, but it does vary from place to place. Recently went with my brother and his family to a chain I'd never heard of before - Brewsters, and we were quite impressed. The food was good, open all day, and brilliant, safe play area for the children. I must add that the above are favourites because we are parents and they all cater very well for children! Now that the lad is older, we must start refining our tastes a bit!

Hi Joan, If you are ever up in my neck of the woods give me a shout and I will take you to a pub at Sicklinghall near Wetherby, I've forgotten the name but you wont be disappointed and I owe you one. LOL Dave

Thanks Dave I will keep you to that when I am next in the area. Must really do some touring around Yorkshire and Lancashire. Even though I have been with my husband for 30 years he really has only seen the inside of my family's homes - we have never done the sights. Just the same when we were living in London - have done all the London tourist bits since we have lived in Bristol. We were poor in those days and never really found the time to do it all when we lived there.
