Who remembers Lyons cornerhouse teashops. There used to be one in Oxford Street, London. When did these teashops disappear and why? Does anybody know? |

I remember going into one in London many years ago ,i think it was near the Palladium because we went for tea on the way to see Max Bygraves in meet me on the corner. We also had one in Wycombe nearly opposite the church by the market but can,t remember the name of the road. I will always remember that one though ,my sister lit up, put her match into the ash tray and set fire to the sugar wrappers ,my mum and i slid under the table we were that embarrest.Denis. |

Did you know that Lyons were the first company in the world (that's right - the world) to run their payroll on a computer. It was called LEO 1 and it went live in February 1954 leading the Economist magazine to ask whether computers might have "a valuable contribution to make in improving business efficiency". Leo had a tiny memory and no software at all. |

They sold the most delicious walnut cake. If I close my eyes I can picture my aunt (actually a second cousin!) and me sitting in Lyons corner house in Putney eating it! Sue |

Remember that Corner shop well Di - used to go there occasionally. The website is www(.)kzwp(.)com/lyons/index(.)htm lots of interesting information on there. I worked at Cadby Hall for a while, they were also one of the first companies to provide nursery facilities for their workers. Remember reading a long time ago that Joan Collins was supposed to have been a 'Nippy' at one time - but that was dropped from her later publicity 'blurbs' Kathleen |
