The postman has just been. There's a (wet) silver envelope addressed to my wife informing her that she is "An Official Winner". I'm sure it's from the Readers' Digest. They say, on the outside of the envelope, "your immediate reply is needed".........trouble is, she's down in Torquay till Friday.....she'll murder me if I open it.....but what if she forfeits a million or two!!!!!!!!!! Ladies, WHAT DO YOU ADVISE??? Please be quick!! |

Open it, and if it's just a circular or something bin it and deny all knowledge! What you don't know can't hurt you! And if it is real, then she'll just be glad you opened it!! Amy x |

Right Amy. Yours is the best advice so far. "Open it" you said...."deny all knowledge"...."bin it"....good thinking, you're obviously an expert at such things. I'll do that then. I can forge her signature. Claim the dosh; scarper to somewhere exotic (well, more exotic than Torquay). Serve her right for leaving her poor old man all alone for a week (5 days, actually). Thanx again...there'll be a drink in it for you. Cheers. Brian x |

Not yet, Ann, Still trying to pluck up courage to open it...tried the old steaming-open trick, but it won't work. You'll be the first to know........watch this space! Have a good day, Brian |

Hi Brian, I am usually extremely dubious and chuck the things away however the other week my friend responded to a text message and won £5000. Last week another friend won £800 to spend in some really nice clothes shops such as Next after receiving a letter saying she'd won a prize. .....Last Friday, a letter came through MY door concerning a prize draw that I had been entered into (no idea how!) telling me that I had won a prize. I decided to phone the number to claim whatever it was and found I'd won £500 shopping vouchers!!!!... Aileen |

Reply to enter, but make sure you use the NO envelope, otherwise you will get books sent to you. Elaine x Ps. We have never won either... |

Brian, Scarpering sounds like a plan!! If you've been abandoned for five whole days! All women should know better than to leave a man helpless and alone for so long!! If it's somewhere sunny mind, I want a ticket! Amy |

Sorry to sound cynical, but any prize notification which requires you to phone an 09 premium rate number is almost certainly not genuine and you will see a few quid on your phone bill but nothing else. And any notification of a winning in a draw that you have not entered is almost certainly a scam: beware of being asked for bank details so that they can pay the winning in by credit transfer, for example. |

I always tell people if they receive one of these envelopes that to win a competion..... you must enter it first!! If they havnt entered any comps then throw it away. Rosie |
