Opening a can (maybe of worms?)

Further to when is a sandwich not a sandwich debate: my wife and I have a disagreement about the best way to open a can!! Should you use the can-opener outside the rim to cut across or inside the rim to cut down? I'll be interested...

It can do it both ways. So which is best? It doesn't matter to me much, but it does to my dearest..

Do you take the whole top of the can off or just what's inside the rim?

Ohhhh, I'm with you now!! I just remove the inside, but don't go quite all the way round and lift "the lid" with a fork. (do you know what I mean)!!!!!

I always open the inside. nowadays most of the cans have pull ups now anyway thats if you buy branded of course. Debbie

Definitely inside the rim John. Much less chance of losing a finger that way! And I also leave a little bit unopened and prize up with a fork again to minimize the chance of injury. I haven't got time to spend sitting around in casualty bleeding to death! lol Jeanette

Definitely inside the rim. I find if you take the lid right off this way, you can tip out contents, rinse out tin and lid, put lid inside tin and put ready for re-cycling. All done reasonably safely without nasty sharp edge from an 'outside' cut tin.

Very intrigued, I've never done it on the outside at least not with cans. Do you lay them down first or hold the opener sideways? If the contents are liquid what then? lol dave
