Can anyone help me? My ancester George Battersby, Kirkham,Lancs was b:1822 married Margaret Moon/Moore 1842, they then had a son George in the same year. Senior George is listed as a soldier on his sons marriage cert 1862 as "soldier, deceased". I can't find him on any census? Nor any death entry for him. All I know is that he died between 1842-1862. They only had the one child, which makes me think he died soon after his sons birth. Why wasn't his death registered? How can he dissappear off the face of the earth?!! |

Could it be he died in a war and therefore not registered here? My great Uncle died in France in 1918 and is registered on the war graves site but not on the general register of deaths. My history isn't good, was there a war round about the dates you have? |

I'm also no good at history, although I'm told there were quite a few wars on! I can really only assume that he did die abroad and that like you said, his death wasn't registered! Annoying that it is though, I would have liked to have known what happened to him. Thanks for your help. |
