I am having a dilema! I want my in-laws to move closer to us, but they dont want to move. They are due to retire in 6 weeks. I work full time and study 3 eves a week, so it would be great if they were closer for my son! My fin is going to Cyprus for 4-6 months of the year so it means that we do spend alot more time with min, but it takes us at least 45-60min to get there. Why dont they want to move near me! They didnt really explain, but they allways ask to see my son more! It made me feel sad, as for the last 3 years I imagined it would just happen!

Stacey Perhaps they are just worried about leaving behind everything and everyone they know and are familiar with. My parents moved near us when they retired, and they love playing an active part in my son's life - and he loves them to bits. It's also been very reassuring having them nearby when my dad was very ill. But sometimes I think they do miss their old neighbourhood, home, friends and church. Don't take it personally - or if you have that good a relationship with them, why don't you ask them? Must say you're lucky wanting them to be nearer you ..... lol

Hi Stacey - The daughter and son-in-law of a friend of ours begged her to move near to them and eventually she gave in, but, although she loved her family, she was never able to settle. She missed all her friends and the various groups that she belonged to so much that it made her ill. After 2 years she finally moved back and is now her happy self again. Please try not to feel hurt as older people often feel more secure and comfortable in surroundings that they have been in for years. Chris

I know I should not complain. But the area they live in has gone down so bad. Did you see the things about Green Lanes gun wars on the news awhile back? Well they live the next street up and they say that they feel scared about the area???? They dont have any other family in england, all my partners mum's family is in Ireland and his dad's in Cyprus and to top it off he is an only child! Perhaps I should ask! Now you come to say it, they might not feel able to cope with the paper work of moving and not want to pressure us by asking to do it! Thanks for making me think! x
