I spent 30 years of my life as a Slim Jim but, since having my 4 children, I can't seem to lose that excess 2 stone. I have read with interest Theresa in Cork's weekly success on her weight loss programme, even if it is with a hint of envy. It's now mid May and I've blown it again. Anyway, I bumped into an old friend today, who I haven't seen for a while, and she has been on a diet, and has lost 8 pound in 4 weeks. She has done it all through an internet site. Anyway, I logged on today and answered a survey. I had a reply straight away and am waiting for all the paperwork. It sounds a bit like SlimFast but is more controlled and involves vitamins. Apparently, it has been a success in this country for 20 years. I think I am going to take the plunge. I know I am not vastly overweight, but I look forward to the day when I wake up in the morning and don't think about how mcuh I weigh. Wish me luck. I'll keep you posted. If you don't hear from me again, you know I have failed. I am hoping, however, that Genes might keep me on the straight and narrow.

Suzanne, I'd like to wish you all the very best and really hope you succeed. Can I be a bit of a killjoy though and suggest that you run this diet past your doctor first? Lots of things help you lose weight, but they're not all necessarily good for your health. I remember a few years ago my husband did a diet that was supposedly endorsed by the British Heart Foundation and involved vast quantities of peanut butter and beetroot, amongst other things .... weren't we naive? Of course it was a hoax. I'm not suggesting that this is anything like that, just to 'proceed with caution'. Honestly wishing you all the very best :)

Thanks so much Mandy. I need all the help I can get. I am seeing my GP on Friday on another matter, so will check it out with her then. Good thinking.

Hello Theresa. What I need is your sheer bloodymindedness. Where do you get that? Apart from continued good health and happiness for all my family and friends, there isn't anything I want more than to be slim again...but I just give up. Why?? PS My Brother and his family live in North Cray. What a small world, eh?

Hello Jude I'm all confused now. Should I try the cereal diet? That's one that has passed me by. I must sound like a desperado, but it really is driving me mad. LOL Love Suzy xx

Hi Suzanne, Buy a slimming magazine as they usually trial different diets each week, or ask your GP which one they recommend. Im nearly at my goal weight now after 4 stone loss but the rest is as stubborn as anything to shift!! Although with weight training and CV work, although im not losing it my body is changing shape, so sometimes its inches not pounds we lose. Do a spreadsheet and measure various points each week, its great for inspiration when you see how much has gone, though unfortunately for me my biggest loss is my bust, will be thinking about implants soon!!! Good luck, anything is possible when you put your mind to it..

Thank you Clare and Linda I have decided to take the plunge and follow the Herbalife programme. It is going to cost around £140, which I can ill-afford, but there is a 30 day money back guarantee if you are not satisfied. It is a lot of money, but, like you Linda, I must have paid out hundreds of pounds to WeightWatchers and Rosemary Conley over the years. As I don't have a huge amount to lose (around 2 stone) I'm hoping that the first month will show some good results and put me on the right course. Since a good friend of mine has had success over the last few weeks, I'm keeping my fingers crossed for myself. I will keep you posted. Thank you all for your encouragement. It really helps. Suzy x

Hi all I hope you dont all mind me butting in but I really think the only way to lose weight is to eat 3 meals a day and no snacks. I have lost over 2 stone in 4 months not masses of weight but enough for people to stop me in the street and say how well I look. I cannot stand these weighing everything diets and planning what to have for tea slim fast isnt good as it only reduces the calories whilst your on it and it isnt a long term thing as once you eat you just go back to your old habits. Yes losing weight is very hard and takes more will power than giving up things as you still have to eat. I try drinking a huge glass of water or even low sugar juice one thing my doctor recomended was eating extra fibre (I realise this isnt for everyone due to medical conditions) I have 5 fibre tablets 1/2 hour before meals and it bloats in your stomach and makes you feel full so dont eat as much. I eat loads of fruit which is very boring at first but its amazing how good an apple tastes when your starving!(well feel like you are!) I chop up my food too so it looks like I have loads (no good if you having soup though!) By slowly reducing how much you eat your stomach shrinks and you feel full more quickly If you do crave food I found a boiled sweet I suck until it dissapears does the trick! keeping busy also helps Monday is my downfall my day off so I buy grapes and when I am picking I just eat grapes. I hate to sound like im on my high horse but its the only way I have ever lost weight It is really hard the first month or so but when the weight starts to go and you change dress size its well worth it! I have days when I eat a cream cake or something high in fat but so what its not everyday and the next day I just carry on as normal in the four months I haven't gained weight some weeks I dont lose then some I lose a bit. Its a long term eating habit not a diet! love Jan x

I really admire you Janet, but I seem to start off well, and then just fall off the wagon. It's my will-power that is shot. I'm hoping this diet will give me a good kick start, and then when I see some results, motivate me to carry on. Thanks for replying.
