Kylie It depends on the distance, and what I'm likely to be carrying as to whether I use the car or not. I need one to get to the wilds of Mid Wales, as otherwise it would need at least 6 changes by public transport and take 5 or 6 hours (to do 70 miles). Being partially disabled plays a part too. |

kylie i CANT drive so i have to walk every where. i am a home carer so i walk to my little old ladies and men everyday, rain or shine! i must admit though,i cant wait for hubby to take me shopping or visit my kiddies.lol i often wish i could drive but im not interested in learning anymore as im 45 years old oh well,i suppose once youve driven it becomes routine(like shanksys pony is to me) lol i hope your car is soon better susie |

Like yourself, I've got VERY lazy and drive everywhere... but am making a real effort lately. Lots of long walks with our recently acquired dog, am really enjoying it - losing weight and getting fit. Saying that, if I was going shopping for more than a couple of items I'd definitely take the car (for a start the shops are a good 2 miles away). |

Paul Years ago our rellies thought nothing of walking two miles to the shops. I don't think much of it either! |

you're right, in the grand scheme of things it's not a great distance BUT... I have the car, so that's a practical use of it. it's not the two miles walk thats the problem anyway, it's the 2 miles walk with several bags of shopping :) I calculated at the weekend that I walk about 2 miles a day during the week and 4 or 5 miles a day at the weekend at the moment, so I'm getting my quota of exercise ! |

Hi Kylie, I tend to drive everywhere as i can't walk far, only been the last 2 and half years. But i used to do alot of walking in my jobs, now when i take the dog out on my good days, i drive to the lakes or country park, then slowly walk for an hour, come home and collapse, with a strong cup of tea, today i walked to pick up my prescriptions its about 15 mins away, with baby grand daughter, so she got some fresh air, it took me an hour and a half to get there and back. But is was such a lovely day, i needed the fresh air. i love driving, but i do miss the long walks i used to have, when the kids were little we walked everywhere, and my 1st, i lived in Brighton and would walk to shoreham everyday to meet her dad from work, its about 10 miles and i used to enjoy the sea air. Now i live in the garden of england, Kent and theres some lovely woods and lakes so have a good day and enjoy some more walks, its good for you sandra |

You have my deepest sympathy - my car was sick last November and needed the engine rebuilt!! So I had to rely on public transport to get to work for over a month - what a joke!! two hours on a bus each morning and evening AND I had to leave work early for the priviledge!! Hope your car is better soon!! Lou |

Walking every time! Afraid I'm a bit anti-car...too many of the blimmin' things these days!! And used for the shortest of journeys. I can understand that for disabled people etc. there is no alternative, but to the able bodied, I'd say walk a bit more, you'd lose weight with hardly any effort, and get fitter! And the rest of us might not have to breathe in so many fumes! Sermon over :-))) Dee X |

Foot in both camps. If I need to visit several places to work in one day I generally drive as there isn't enough time to get between venues otherwise. Twice a week I walk to work - 5½ mile round trip. If it's a bit drizzly, I wear the right clothes and take an umbrella. If it's raining cats and dogs, it's the car. If I need to go shopping in town (near where I work) I take my big rucksack with me. Fits everything in - I can always go again in a couple of days if necessary! Plastic bags are silly anyway! Have 2 cars in our family (2 adults, 1 3yr old). |
