My husband was too depressed to talk about this this morning, but can someone please explain to me, in simple terms as I am not familiar with all the ins & outs of the rules of footie- but what the hell was wrong with that goal that was disallowed last night? I know they are our team and we wanted them to win, but being totally objective- was it a correct call, or was the ref just being a 'crook' as my husband says(and that was the only polite term he used!!!)

there was nothing wrong with that goal, and again we were robbed, (remember maradonna)spelling? there should be a 4th official watching a screen to make it fair, the lines man gave it but the ref (who was to far away to see what really happened) disallowed it. im not really into footie but i like to watch & support my country in major competitions, and would like to see them treated fairly. penny

Maybe we might have had more of a chance if Roony had learned to tie his bootlaces properly,

claire rooney was fouled! the portuguese defender clipped the back of his foot, which took his boot off. he now has a broken foot, poor kid yet again the culprit got a free kick, surprise surprise! susie

Yes I had heard that Roony had a # toe, Seems that the ref was biased,,the swiss tosser, And to think ,,,i thought he looked quite tasty when they showed the line up at the begining of the match,

Malcolm Can you read the language on the website you gave cos I can't. Is there any point putting a message on - will he be able to read English? If so I will tell him what I think!

Ann

Ann Report 25 Jun 2004 17:07

Lynne, the language on the ref's website is German, but if you scroll down to the bottom it says e-mail- that will enable you to e-mail him direct- he has to speak English to be an international ref- but please keep it clean, we don't want to re-inforce his anti- English prejudices by abusing him!!!

I could spit. If we had Peireluigi as our ref that would never of happened. We have some fine players and our game wasn't wholly dependant on our Rooney. I personally think Beckham could have played a bit better - does anyone else think this man has over committed himself to other outside pursuits and thus become too tired for his 'real' job? Still what's done is done and hopefully our capt and manager will learn from this 'cos WE ARE GONNA WIN the WORLD CUP in 2 yrs time : )

Hi all, Apparently the ref thought that John Terry was pushing the goalie. According to the video evidence you can clearly see that John Terry did not take his eyes off the ball and was purely trying to get in position. This is totally LEGAL. The ref was biased, however, the team did not play at their best. It is a great shame about Roony, who was fouled, but a team does not consist of one player. Everton will miss him if he is not better by the time the season kicks off. Beckham has not been up to par either for Real Madrid or England since that mobile text business a couple of months ago. The woman???? who alleged that has a great deal to answer for. One last thing, who is that player brought on for Roony. The one who failed to get the last penalty passed the keeper. He was hardly in the play at all, a very poor subsitute. Surely there must be someone better than him to back up Roony and Owen and don't say Heskey, he's no better. Roll on the World Cup - there's always another chance for the glory we really deserve. Janet

God I wish someone would pay me as much as Beckham to miss penalties - I could have missed it just as well as him:)

Ann Report 25 Jun 2004 18:17

David, I agree about the money- I would happily miss penalties, even for just 1 week, to get the sort of money that they earn!!!

Elizabeth Report 25 Jun 2004 19:47

Its not just Beckham either, Chelsea are reportedly going to pay Gerard £125,000 per week, and what part did he play last night. He was useless and was puffing and panting after 15 mins. £125,000 per week Chelsea must be totally mad. Liz

You all seem to have forgot that England did not play very well, I feel very sorry for them but they were rubbish.

Ann Report 26 Jun 2004 06:21

Elizabeth- How much? Per week? £125,000!!! There are highly skilled surgeons performing life-saving operations that don't get paid that much per year!!! Presumably a large proportion of the clubs money comes from the fans- and how many of them are struggling to bring up their families on low paid jobs? And when they are old and infirm and need full time care, Social Services won't pay and they end up festering in hospital wards - Sorry to rant but a (mostly) badly behaved bunch of footballers to earn that much for doing something of so little social value is obscene!!!! There, I've got it off my chest now!!!
